Have been considering buying a 4X4 for the practicallity of one. Towing a caravan (need one of those too) and space basically. Might meen selling the 300ZX though. The point of this thread..............

Any suggestions on a decent 4x4 priced at around 6K. I have been looking at the latest frontera, The Chrysler Grand Cherokee (2000 onwards). Style wise. Even considered the Murano but I cant afford the 11 - 15K price tag.

Be carefull Vini these motors are possibly about to get stung with huge road tax costs, proberbly why i've seen so many for sale quite cheap. Incidently my mate has a cherokee turbo diesel and loves it

Carl I dont care if the road tax was 1k per year I would still have mine:D I need it and use it to its full potential :nana2:

I've had 6 Range Rovers in various guises (4.0, 4.6 etc) and loved every one! Fantastic vehicle but many suffer with headgasket problems! I was lucky and always found ones that had just been sorted.

For the money you are looking at spending you could probably find a 97/98 in fantastic condition and possibly gas converted too! Not sure if that's a little older than you're after, but a hell of a lot of car for the money.

And it'll pull your house down, let alone a caravan. :D

Yes http://www.beastfromtheeast.co.uk/files/Warrior/w07.JPG The falcon is flying free.

The 4x4 is used for shooting falconry and now my little one has asked me to buy a horse box to take her pony to the beach

Range Rover would get my vote too. But I'd go for the Bmw 2.5TD engine instead. More reliable, economical and suprisingly powerfull and smooth.

Would never have instead of a Zed though...great daily driver with zed as 2nd car.

A good point there mate and a very reliable motor. I just found it a little underpowered for my use and didn't keep mine long. But my misses always tells me I'm stupid!! :D

Bloody hell that didnt take long to train. lol i got 1 the same but she 17 and i tell ya the bigger they get the bigger things they want. That is a lovely truck though, mine would have to be an old hi lux, again lol

We nearly bought a Hilux for the missus to tow the horses with, and for me to tow the rex to track days. In the end we got the BMW tourer as realistically we wouldn't tow that often and its only one horse (or one car). Plus the BMW tourers are excellent sports cars anyway. The running costs seem about the same or more expensive than a zed for a 4*4? may be off the mark there though.

Hiya ian. :D I fully agree with you mate. I have been thinking of buying a caravan as I said and what better vehicle to pull it? Obviously I dont do off roading but I am sure I can find other ways to justify haveing a 4X4. I aint got any kids to run to school so I wont be using it for its main intended purpose??? Or so it seems.

How you been mate? I hope all is well your end?

Many thanks for the input lads. :D

The L200 was a serious consideration too. Lovely looking vehicle especially with a decent truckman top on it.

...On a budget...PLUS, no need for a gas guzzler and a mobile shed! Get the following....the bonus being, you get to keep the Z!!

Or even one of these....costs are almost Zero.... A low mileage shire horse with full service history and new shoes is gonna cost less than an L200... lol
