My door lock on the drivers side has the usual problem of the barrel being knackered so I have to use the clifford remote to unlock the door. The passenger side has the opposite problem in that it doesn't lock/unlock with the remote and will only do it manually!

The drivers door lock is stuck shut today and I can't use the door :headvswal Hopefully it will 'unjam' later. If it doesn't un-jam is there anyway of getting into the door without breaking the door card as I can't reach the screws because the door is stuck shut.

Also any ideas what the problem could be? I'm thinking central locking solenoid on the passenger side, but the drivers side (I think) is mechanical so perhaps the actual locking unit is jammed? Not sure if the clifford introduces any bells and whistles? Any ideas appreciated. Also does anyone know how much the new locking units, solenoids and key barrels are as I don't want any annoyances on this car (if thats possible on a zed).

Thanks for that Mick. Could you just confirm if you have two keys now?! maybe a silly question but I'm never sure. I did decide not to do any more work myself on the car, and the labour isn't a huge amount compared to the price of the bits I suppose? Does anyone else having any alternatives fixes?

Hi. I've got both solenoid assemblies and I'm sure I've got the other bits you need too. I'll check the garage tomorrow.

Cheers

That would awesome if you have Dave. I'll hold my breath....:)

yer iv got 2 different keys now but you can get the barral sent away and they'l modify it to fit your old key or your new key. i think they said it was about £100 to do that and it will take two weeks to do it

same happened to me, actuator jammed, these are non standard but are fitted along with most alams. If your door is jammed then i think you will find its the aftermarket actuator thats stuck. I dont think the stock mech can get stuck in that way.

i couldnt open the door at all, even from the inside of the car, you can pull on the tab on the inside of the door but it wont budge. Am I right?

If so you will need to disconnect the actuator from the door mechinism. Its possible to do it with the door card on but not easy if you dont know what it feels like etc. I knifed mine in the end so it cost me a door card (tenner) and a new actuator (£5) from ebay or maplins.

My drivers door lock has never worked with the key (it just spins), passenger side still works tho :) After that im climbing in the boot!

I need to investigate! I'll get the Rac to come out and take a look, if anyone can open it they can. Then hopefully I can see what the issue is.

Can you elaborate on what you said mate as I'm not sure what you mean? I got some second hand solenoids just in case but it turns out the ones in the car are the aftermarket ones and not the normal oem ones. Apparently they have two pins and one is neg one pos when locked then the opposite when open. Are the actuators a different piece?

there is no actuator on the drivers side on the stock z, only on the passenger side.

on the stock car there is a switch in the key lock with activates the actuator on the passenger side to lock or unlock it. These dont usually fail as they are good quality.

If you have an alarm fitted most of them include REMOTE central locking and you need a way of locking / unlocking the drivers door electrically. So... most alarm companys fit a cheap aftermarket actuator and they can totally jam in the shut position which is what happened to me and to you I suspect.

I had to cut my door card to get it out and tbh i dont think you will do it any other way. I contacted my alarm company to get a new one and they said £50 + P&P. I then typed in the part number of it on ebay and found they were only a fiver!

here is one..

Once somehow getting you door card off or cutting into it you will find it mounted to the inside of the door near the very bottom right side (near seat belt if series one) with the rod attached to the door lock mechinism that moves the lock electronically. Its the two wire type you need, the wires will go to your alarm box to trigger it. The actuator moves the door key mech the same as you would with the key, this sends the signal to open the stock actuator on the passenger side.

Hope this clears it up a bit, it will all become apparent when you have the card off!
