SAD DAY / SAD Revelation. after 5 months sitting in garage. Competition!

I hadn't fired up my beast of a zed for 5 months. Stuck a new battery in & Started it..

let it run rough for a little while and then took it our for a spin to see it that would help. what sort of problems would one think this chain of events could cause?

or any, for that matter.

Well none, providing the oil pressure was ok and the oil was in good condition..plus all the seals ok?

That's right, thanks for reminding me,, one of the first things I looked for... the oil pressure was good. interesting.

reality is that it didn't get better. Just sputtering.. Told that there is Zero ( ZERO absolutely none ) pressure in the 6th Cylinder and that it's probably a bent Valve... could easily have buggerred the whole engine.... as there was no oil on the top end ????? It's not like I got right on it..

I'm at a slight loss for words.. I'm going out to Z-Tech tonight to check it out...

Yes.. thought that's what I said ;)

so if this is the case and the 6th cyclinder is as Zero pressure for about 3 miles... what sort of damage would you expect....

You'd get bore washing, so the rings might have scored the cylidner walls...although entirely sure what damage is cause due to bore washing.

not likely after a short space of time though its not much differant than missing on a cylinder, and most z owners are down on a cylinder from time to time lol

The heads are apparently a common problem with the early Z32's (so I was told). I had a similar problem to mine when I first got it. Took it in and was told I had a sticky valve in the 6th Cylinder. I had a little pressure but the car ran lumpy like it had a coil pack unplugged (and we have all probably experienced that at least once).

Heads were stripped off, valves were reseated on all cylinders and the heads were skimmed and refitted. ...... Same problem ...... Took it back, still low pressure on that cylinder, turned out to be a cracked ring on the piston:cry:

Sh*t mate, thats not nice news to get. For some reason I thought these were non-interference engines (if thats the right term) and the valves don't hit the pistons? prob wrong though. Maybe the valve just got stuck for some reason and so caused the low compression, and wouldn't be too much bother?

No oil to the top end  is that the whole top end or just the no 6 cylinder? I guess if there's no oil to the top end then the no6 cylinder would be the first to jam as it think thats the one that runs the hottest?

Terrible news, hope its not as bad as it sounds

As they say in the Literary world.... IBID. You are probably 100% spot on.. next step is to take off heads.. but reality is that the rings are shot; without knowing exactly what pistons/rings are in there can't really do a half job.

The problem was probably there before the storage... means I was pulling on 5 or maybe 5 1/2 cyclinders when I ran the 480 rwhp.

going to be expensive to fix... got receipts for £42K... £4K turbos, £1.7K seats etc... may take a lump sum for the lot before spending another £5K on a proper rebuild... as I'd hate to see that one go wrong for some unforeseen reason.

any offers?

So.......... 'drum roll' .......... although no consolation for the woes you had to expereince to have the right answer.. you, my friend, win the prize. if it goes the parting out route... name some parts that aren't very expensive and you can have 'em. or name one you really want and I'll give you a great deal.

I'm sure that you agree that we hope it doesn't go to that, huh
