Ok its started! Guess who went out to buy a 'nice sensible reliable' daily drive at the weekend and came back with a 300zxTT?!! :mac1:

I'll post a thread with some pics once everything is sorted and I've got a few mins spare. I bought the TT from PaulTT who is off to Miami. I'm pretty chuffed to have one again but wary of the can of worms that Zeds can be!! Its bone stock and has full nissan service history right down to the dealers letter before it was sold, and the original brochure and a bunch of Zclub mags! All the tools, targa bits, etc are all there, aircon works well, interior is immaculate apart from the drivers side of seat in the usual place, it came with the original nissan radio and cd player but he's also given me a DVD player. Its got a bit of rust from being a UK spec but it passed the MOT with no problems in that area. I want to keep it stock and do a 'Funky Si' with it! I'm dont want to spend any money on upgrades, just on making it as nice as possible in stock form.

It drives well really nice, its great to be in a nice comfy Zed. Cooling is excellent (replacement OEM rad not long ago); I got stuck in 2hrs of near standstill motorway traffic on the way home and it didn't miss a beat. I got Paul to put it in for an MOT before I picked it up and it failed on a front tyre (he replaced it) and rear pads. I've just taken it in for a retest and its also failed on some rear bushes on the bottom of the shocks, pretty minor job so alls good there and I'll have 12mths ticket tomorrow.

As always you sit there wondering what issues you'll have :x: The clutch has been slipping on heavy load so I'm getting a new one tomorrow (bye bye £500  ). The other problem is that it has stalled a few times when manouvering today. The idle is at 650 rpm. When coming off throttle when parking, etc it will go down really low and then go back up to 650rpm. Sometimes it will go low and stall. I wondered if it is a sticky idle air valve (edit - AAC valve)? I thought about turning the base idle up but I don't think thats the actual problem as once its settled at idle it is solid and doesn't stall, its just after revving it. Anyone any ideas?

edit - chuffed, just got it back and alls well. New clutch, 12mths ticket, the stalling was just gunked up throttle bodies :hyper:

Thanks for that. Good link. Looking at the service manual it seems like the A.A.C is the culprit. The idle itself is rock solid, its this bit which says check the AAC:

'engine stalls when momentarily pressing on the accelerator' its only done it a few times but I want this Zed to be perfect (is that possible?) so will need to check that out.

Welcome back to "reliable" motoring. :D

Yeah, I'm really hoping this will be like my last zed which (for me at any rate, not rodders  ) was super reliable. Its probably wishful thinking though as this is a stock one with quite high milage. I've spent about 700 squids today on sorting all the things that seem at all suspect :headvswal

I just want a really nice stock zed as since having a fire breathing Rex I've really come to appreciate how good a road car the zed is in standard form.

This one has had the turbos redone so thats the main expensive item sorted. I'm getting the clutch done tomorrow. Hopefully there's not much else that can go wrong!

Hello Dave nice to see you're got another Zed and have joined the exclusive I've got a Zed and a REX Club :D :D :D

Sorry hear it's got problems mate, mines off the road in need of another stock injector.

Hope you get it all sorted and looking forward to seeing it

Thanks Eileen :-) I went up to the Southern meet at Dartford in the rex last night. I got there late but met up with a few people still. Not to worried about having to get things done as I'd budgeted for that. I just don't want any niggling problems that I can't get to the bottom of! Needing to do the clutch was a bit of an expensive one but at least its done. The engine seems nice and strong and its a nice clean car so hopefully it'll be free of any issues and I'll be able to get some sun on my bonce this summer :-)

It's a mare I know. I'm doing all my own work on the Zed, so I'm full of cut's and brusing on my tiny hands.

I've upgraded the brakes, put in BoV's and silcone vaccum hoses now I've the injector to sort, plugs to change, heater matrix to sort and an oil change to do. Who'd own a Zed lol

So looks like we both have uk spec Zed's as well nice one :D

Hope to catch you either at japshow, biling, jae, rotorstock or japfinale as I'll be at them all. I just want to get the zed on the drag strip I've been practising those take off's but sometimes I end up going a bit sideways :D :D

Drifty drifty :o

Either way zed or rex I'm geting on that strip :D :D :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Nice one Dave, good to see you've got a Zed again!! All you need now is a couple of mig welded tips and away you go! :D oh, got a spare upgraded Chip to sort out the fueling if you want that too!

Can't stand those mig tips mate. My first zed was killed due to those things and a faulty boost gauge (adjustable mig tips/valves were turned up to high). I've not got the zed to go fast, it'll never match the rex in speed or handling. I'm keeping it standard and enjoying the quality drive :hyper:

Dave youre mad mate, but i like you :) welcome back to the world of the Z

:hyper: :smw:

Dave is mad! Long live Dave! Turbo charged Dave!

Such a shame you're not still in the SW region though mate!

Pmsl cheers Si! That was a very nice milky bar, I still remember it now. It was like a white hot chocolate! Good meet as well.

It was a hot day and it was sat in your centre consol melting. I think you squeezed it out like a tube of Primula!

Fantastic meet that was. One of the best IMHO.

Chuffed, just got it back and alls well. New clutch, 12mths ticket, new brake pads all round, the stalling was just gunked up throttle bodies :hyper:

I went in and asked them to sort out whatever they could find as I didn't want the stress of mucking around with it myself. I've got some rear suspension bushes that will take 20days from japan still to do before I can have the MOT paperwork, but otherwise the car is perfect. I was expecting to at least remove and clean the idle and aac solenoids but they took a look and cleaned the throttle bodies and everything seems great now. I was able to take a look at the underneath whilst it was on the ramp. Its not bad at all for a UK spec, it does have some rust and one spot thats had some minor welding but its looking pretty good under there for 14yrs. Next on the list will be some nice 18" alloys. The only upgrade I'd like to do is a bigger brake kit as I don't think much of stock Zed brakes. I'd also like a leather interior, although the existing cloth one is possibly the cleanest I've ever seen on a zed. The passenger side is practically show room condition, the drivers side likewise but it has a rip on the bolster. Nice to be back in Zed land :)

Hmm maybe I've got the wrong term, tweed? Its different to the stuff in my first 1990 import zed at any rate. Its all matching so looks original. The guy worked for a main stealers so it would account for it being so clean though! Did the UK ones all have leather or something?

....................Did the UK ones all have leather or something?

Most UKs have leather but I do believe it may have been an option however most buyers seemed to go for it. Then again cloth may have been a no cost option........

The UK spec tweed is darker and much nicer than j-spec tweed though.....

Richard :smw:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
