According to my datascan results the timing seems well advanced its reading 25 at idle also, the rpm is 1000

I recently had a manual conversion, if this is relevant ?

I thought is was supposed to be about 15

please advise

I think its advanced when first started and the engine is cold then should go to 15 once warmed up

could be wrong am sure someone will correct me if I am

I can't remember the exact changeover points but at 1000 rpm your timing could well be that high. Bring it down to 650rpm and see what it is then.

Bear in mind that the Datascan only shows you what the ECU thinks it set at - it relies on the base timing being set correctly at 15 degrees, everything is an offset from that point onwards.

it depends if the auto gearbox input to the ecu is earthed or not , if not it shows 25degrees advance all the time at idle, you can earth the input via the nuetral switch on the gearbox to correct the problem

Thanks for all replys..........

Also it did show a code 54 auto signal or something

Now you know whats coming where is the neutral switch on the box please ??

Allo bud,

Check your neutral switch is connected up right as this will throw the timing out at idle iirc if youve done an auto conversion. Im not an expert so i may be wrong :D

Also is the timing 25 or is it just the ecu thinks it is, also could this be why it wont let me drive in extended boost ? thanks

Wheres the neutral switch please ?

Wheres the neutral switch please ?

On the gearbox, its mounted at the rear of the box. its behind the reversing light switch.

You may be able to ge to it through the gearshift hole, but im not sure.

Im just doing a manual conversion as we speak. I've had the car just over 2 years and only driven it for a few months :headvswal self inflicted overhauls and upgrades :(

iirc auto to manual conversions are slightly different cos the auto's advance the timing a bit more when in neutral and then retard it when its in gear. Thats why you need the earth the neutral switch so it doesnt keep it too advanced. disclaimer...I could be wrong tho :D

Right winge over deep breath...... here we go

Please see pic , can i earth that wire directly cos i dont know what is connected or not without getting it on a lift & the garage that done conversion is closed for hols.

Or must i connect it

please advise

Gearbox_switch_sensor.jpg

pin 44 on the ecu will need connecting up to the nuetral switch and then the nuetral switch will need connecting to earth,or you can just earth pin 44 constantly, this wont stop it running in normal boost its just a false indication in nuetral

beat me to it, if pin 44 isnt grounded this will put your base timing out by 10 degrees BTDC

pic of where pin 44 is located

Thanks for the replys guys, but no cables/sensors were cut when autobox was taken out. Im hoping its a matter of a plug in?

Getting it a lift tonight , any advise welcome

Well the auto box is different - it wouldn't have neutral sensor in the same place.

and also the Auto ECU has extra programs built into it that the manual dosent so now the car is manual it wont need these extra programs, thats proberbly why your getting code 54 as it cant detect the Auto gearbox anymore

well your getting there though bud all be worth it in the end

As has already been said, you dont need to do this as pin 44 is only earthed when the box is in neutral so timing is ok when driving. It's only affected when in neutral so don't worry about it. The only adverse effect I know of is that the engine idles slightly faster than it should.

Cheers that was nt to hard was it 4 FFS

Thanks

I hooked up the neutral switch on mine, you notice the difference when you put it in and out of neutral.
