NZR: Who here has neighbours from Hell - what did you do?

mad.gif

[RANT ON] I finished my night shift, went home for some kip, get woken up 2 hours later by loads of loud banging(this is 09:45am on Sunday remember). Now the russians next door are always doing some sort of f*cking DIY, shouting in russian or the son is jumping around like a rabid babboon mad.gif

But I thought this hammering wont last long(our houses share floorboards), but it went on and on and I snapped! This was the last straw as for two weeks I get waken every morning by their banging and shouting.

I got dressed went down stairs and not thinking I picked up my heavy duty 2½ foot long Torque Bar and started banging on the door(with my hand).

They were slow to open but when they did it the shouting started. mad.gif

Luckly my brother and cousin turned up to the house(coming back from airport) and my bro saw I was angry and tired so jumped in and told me to go in and he would sort it, but could I sleep, no the f*ckers were still making noise mad.gif

In the end I had to sleep in another room but man was I pissed. When stuff like this happens you think how far will this go? Will they try and damage our cars? How far will we have to go to sort it(one way or the other) if it escalates?

[RANT OFF]

The local councils are now cracking down on noise like that. Make a diary of the noise. Try get some on tape. Every time they make too much noise write a letter to the council, they will soon get a warning and threatened to be thrown out under anti-social laws.

We had a letter a few years ago that my sister played her music too loud, which she did, and I am glad it happened, I got some rest too.

The law states that no member has to be subject to anyone elses noise 24 hours a day. So contact the council when the noise starts and they will come around and listen, that way they can take action.

I usually just confront them and threaten them, and it does the trick lol.

Cheers for the info lads,

Realise it's probably too late for this, but have you tried talking to them and explained the fact that you work shifts and could you come to some arrangement about their DIY habits.

Either that, or play loud music all night when you're out, keeping them awake so that by the time you come home, they're too tired to DIY. Or they hit their hand with the hammer causing a 14 hour wait in A&E.

Either way, the result = peace. smile.gif

The Environment Agency say:

Noise regulation

Noise nuisance is regulated by the local authorities under:

Environmental Protection Act, 1990

Noise and Statutory Nuisance Act 1993 - includes car radios, loudspeakers and burglar alarms

Noise Act, 1996 - allows local authorities to restrict noise from households between 11pm and 7am

Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use Regulations) 1986 – governs noise made by vehicles

Complaints about noise should be made to the Environmental Health Department of the appropriate local authority.

link is http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/search/?lang=_e and stick noise in the appropriate box

Good Luck - Gio

hi trev,

i sympathise with you, my last house I had similar problems to you, I contacted the council who contacted the enviroment agency, we kept a diary, they come round, they sent them letters telling them to keep the noise down etc, that just made things more hostile.

In the end my wife became so depressed with it all we moved! frown.gif

hope you get it sorted, but it may take some time going through the correct channels.
