My car has been garaged all winter, & recently had a manual conversion.

I get a slight vibration between say 35ish & 50 mph, it has seemed to improve. But on hard acceleration there is a strange sound ( its not det btw)

its almost like a cow that starts to moo....... lol hope that makes sence

& please no sarcastic replys.

Also not the cabin driveshaft/gearbox getting quite hot. The only thing i can think is a dry joint in the bearings ???????

Any sensible advise welcomed

I would be wary of a one piece prop as it hasn't worked perfectly for me. Mines a LWB NA auto. Prop came from USA.

you can buy a 1 piece prop which doesnt use a centre bearing... if it is your centre bearing thats shot you can get one of these for not much more than the price of the bearing and never have to worry again :)
did you get it from z1? iv also heard 1 report that one guy on here bought one but it was not balanced properly so made matters much worse... any feedback on these would be great :)

had the same prob when i had mine converted ,i spent the next three months trying to track the prob changed the bearing ,gearbox mount etc no joy, finallly bought a one piece from zi in usa, fitted it myself in 3 hours, and eversince its been great,no problems, the problem with mine was the people who fitted the manual put two differant halves of prop together so they were not balanced.

Funny thing is on the way back from Silverstone at around 80mph I was getting what sounded like muffled heavy bass (kinda like a cow). Is there an easy way to check the centre prop bearing?

Had exactly the same problem after a manual conversion. If the prop was split and the front end changed for the manual one, the prop will almost certainly need balancing. I spent many hours splitting the prop and turning through 90 degrees to try to cure with no success. Once I had it balanced, it was completely cured. You need to find someone decent to carry out this work as they have to be dynamically balanced and not everyone can do this. I took mine to a well established local company and they had to send it away even though they had balancing equipment themselves.

Thats what i was thinking, thanks to all who replied will look into it :)

the two piece nissan prop was designed with noise reduction in mind

its very heavy and causes drag with the bearing, reducing rwhp

but when they were new 15 years ago they were smooth and quiet

one piece prop is much better once setup right, took me two months but was worth it

Before the conversion it was perrrrfect ...lol cheers 4 ur input

Centre bearing check :- get under car and grip prop either side of bearing, if there is movement ( I mean realy loose movement) when the prop is moved up, down and side to side, the bearing is goosed. There will be restrained movement due to bearing design, but if it rattles like a dick in a wellie it's time for a new one.

Don't have a problem with that Paul except I'm off to Mauritius to get hitched this Friday. Was hoping the Jaffa was going to 100% for the blessing, but luckily got my trusty Triumph 2000 to do the honours and maybe the slicktop shorty for a couple of naughty nights away, Clifford permitting.

When I get back we can sort things out. It's OK if you want to drive around at 45-50, but after that it drowns out most music. The other problem is if I could get the original fixed you have the centre mount fixings.

By the way a replacement alternator cured then bad egg problem, but not after shafting my shorties battery!

pete we need to investigate that prop even if we trial fit it too another Car

...good luck with the wedding.
