Folks,

Would anyone be scared to take a 1993 N/A Z32 2+2 on a long drive (round distance approx 1,000 miles)?

I'm going to Le Mans next week and there's a chance that my 260Z (which I had been planning to go in) won't be ready in time, so I might take the Z32 instead.

I know the Z32 will be faster and more comfortable than the 260, but at least with the 1978 car I know that most things can be fixed by the side of the road!

Am I mad to consider it?

Cheers,

Tony

your N/A will be fine ...did 3500kms in 5 days last summer in Europe and not a prob ....

...

NO!! my N/A eats long journeys mate. fuel consumption might be a bit higher on the motorways but it'll be fine (IMO :wack: )

No problem, reliabilty is one of the best things about owning a N/A!

lol yeah no turbos to go wrong ;)

>> Any spares I should carry though?

-a spare PTU can be handy (if you still have the old model PTU in the car)

-some extra coolant and oil (but in case of emergency you can purchase this at most gas stations as well)

I went to Le Mans in my TT - no problems. We went past a lot of broken down TVR's though !

I used to drive my TT up and down the country every day. Its what the Zed is best out. As said just do all the usual checks and perhaps carry a spare PTU, maybe a few tools and hoses/clips?

25,000 odd trouble free miles in my NA so far, including some long journeys (touch wood!)

It's what the car was designed for - I'd say go for it.

With my old N/A I used to cover a lot of miles.

Having said that I did blow 2 rads on long distance journeys. This was more to do with old/perished plastic connections.

Check these before you go and obviously keep an eye on the temp gauge!

Cheers folks. It's tempting! If it's sunny a roof-out blast would be great!

If I do it I'll take some spare hoses & clips etc. She does whiff of petrol every now and then but that's on cold days I think. I'm pretty sure a newer PTU was put in before I bought her so that should be OK.

A spare engine is unlikely though :-)

I'm still planning to go in my 260Z which may be cramped and unrefined by comparison but is mechanically MUCH simpler and usually fixable if a problem arises. Unfortunately it's in the workshop at the moment, so I'm prepping the Z32 just in case.

I sat my old na at 65mph on the motorway all the way to cornwall and back (about 750mile round trip) and it did it on a tank, no worries, no issues and no problems at all.

My tt did 370 round trip twice in the last couple of months, no issues at all

They're pretty goot at motorway speed and long distance

That's over 45mpg!

65mph all the way must take some restraint though.

750 miles from 1 tank!! thats pretty impressive mate. drove to leeds and back the other day (about 340 miles) and that took a tank of fuel. sat at 80 for pretty much the whole journey tho.

so would i be mad to consider driving mine to spain next year? modded stg 2 TT? sorry to hijack bud but am interested

drove to the nurburgring last week, Amesterdam in December, and Berlin the year before in my TT ;-) Didn't miss a beat

Spare set of bulbs, first aid kit and a warning triangle required over there. Hide your road angel, frogplod take exeption to that type of equipment ! !

Oh LOL same here in 2003............... EVERY car broken down seemed to be a TVR.... Poor fellas. Need to get something more reliable :mac1:

Just to add it was a 1,000 odd mile round trip for me '90 UK TT Manual and the car didnt miss a beat. Just keep putting the fuel in and you'll have a grin ear to ear blasting in france.

IIRC it was a 500 mile journey home which was completed in 12 hours (inc ferry) and at the end I still felt fresh as a daisy (inc. some 130+ action for quite a few miles when I saw the oxford signposts and realised I didn't have to stop for fuel again :hyper: ).

From that journey I realised Z32s are built to cross continents quickly and comfortably.

ROB

truth be told, zeds suffer from being stopped and started, and being thrashed about.

Sat on a motorway and a fairly steady speed will probably do most of our cars good!

Get them cleared out properly lol

I know mine always feels much better after iv been to my mums in it, only 40 miles on the motorway, but it feels far more responsive than when its been run into town and back a few times a week!

7+ years as daily drivers -91 and now 97 NAs, approx 15k miles a year - only time off the road was waiting for a water pump to arrive to replace a leaky one. 1000 mile trip? and you are worried? ...walk in the park...

Good luck
