I know this is a jap colour, but would you need to visit a specialist? The people who did my respray couple of years ago couldn't do flip colours but they are sound guys and i'm hoping to go back there and do the yucky work , stripping and masking and all that myself to keep the costs down, just wondering If anyone else went down this road on a budget?

I'd take it to someone that's competant with spraying pearl. It's a 3 stage paint, so you get the base colour, the pearlcoat and then the top coat lacquer. I've seen some truely awful pearl resprays with dark patches and poor coatings. Dark patches can be hard to spot in a spray booth as light reflects on pearl coats in lots of different ways. So can be easy to hash up if care is not taken.

I was reluctant at first to get mine done, but was recommended by Jimmer on the forum who uses a chap that has quite a bit experience spraying pearls. He does a lot of custom VW vans and many of those have part pearl/full pearl resprays. So entrusted him with it and overall happy with the work done to mine.....it's by no means perfect (as I'm a really picky bastard!), but it's good enough.

I also had my paint fully detailed shortly after the respray to get the top coat as good as possible.

Few of these pics are pre-detail and if you look hard you can just make out vague buffer trails.

Cheers si, i reckon these guys could do this. I'll save these pics for them and hope they won't be offended...

imo! i would take it to a specialist from the start, the prep is as important as the respray.

looking at chewies from what i can see, is a superb job of a very dificult spray job!!
