Ive just fitted a scorpion exhaust to the zed and after a couple of hours i noticed a lot of smoke coming out of the drivers side. this only happens when the car is sitting at the lights or ticking over for about 30 seconds.

i had a play with the boost about a week ago and shes been running great.

I reckon ive blown the seals on the drivers side turbo or they've gone due to the loss in back pressure after fitting the scorpion exhaust.

the car is running very rich as the exhausts were very sooty after a few blasts out in her, so i dont think i could have killed any internals(hope not).

Other than the smoke shes running great

Can i get the turbo off the car without the engine out. Ive read on here that some of you have had them out without removing the lump.

What sort of cost to recon them.

They are standard tubs. Garret

Any help would be appreciated

you need to pull the engine mate you can get the passenger side off with it in but its soooo much hassle, you might aswell pull the engine.

dont assume its the tubs just yet... change the pcv valves first and keep your fingers crossed! only about 7 quid from mike @ mjp... these are aften contributors to idle smoking problems so you could be lucky. remove the pcv pipework and clean it out too.

if it still smokes after that do a comp test to eliminate internals, then look into getting your tubs changed. turbo recon is about 300 quid a unit, if your gonna do 1, do both! labour for engine pull will be very reasonable through Paul@SWZ. unless you have go go gadget fingers and arms you will not be able to do it with the engine in, you will definately not be able to torque to the correct figures accurately and you will need special adapted tooling for it.

I have the Scorpion exhaust on mine and i bought the car with blown turbo's, i got a lot of receipts with the car and the and noticed that its gone through 2 sets of turbo's in 2 years so maybe the Scorpion exhaust is not suited to stock turbo's. I could get the passenger side turbo off without pulling the engine but deffo not the drivers so had to pull the engine anyway, when i got the turbo's of the oil was running out through the impellers. Was getting heavy smoke from the drivers side only before i done all this but both were deffinatly leaking oil.

Am I right in thinking your new exhaust has no cats and your previous one did then?

was ok on my car bud, maybe its just the soot inside the exhaust blowing out

how does it sound anyway, you like it

pcv valves wont solve anything, if it has started smoking since exhaust is fitted, then it will indicate the seals have less back pressue, i know so many people who have killed there already worn turbos by removing the catalyst.

I can vouch for that on my old zed.

removed cats - lots of smoke - very shortly after - one dead zed.

car was decatted already. just changed all the rest

well heres one for you all, since the car only smoked on tickover i decided to knock the revs up slightly......and guess wat? the car dosnt smoke any more!!!!

but if i knock the revs down below 1000 the smoke is back on the drivers side.

i reckon the small amount of back pressure ive gained from turning the revs up slightly has stopped the seals leaking

i know its not a fix but its a temp untill i get the funds to do it proper.

well i think i,ll run it as it is with the revs at 1200 till i save the pennys for a couple of hybrids.

ive ran around in it all day and not a bit of smoke after knocking the revs up slightly.

curious!!!!!

sounds like it should mate, proper nice. runs well too

that looks like a niec very clean example bud, and the exhaust sets it of nicely without being over the top
