Hi, my car recently started pinking & i have owned the car for 2months.

It is manual 300zx twin turbo ,1992 with bmark chip(?) to run upto 1.1BAR,full exhuast upgrade with de-cat pipes, blitz induction kit, boost jets running 0.9BAR.

My problem is detonation,so i checked the timing & its was reading 15deg's & i have had to retard it to 9degrees to sort the pinking , does anyone know the cause of this problem as i have allready checked plugs, coils, ptu & cas connecitons.

Could this be down to the bmark chip (no info found on web about it,had a look at the ecu & the chip is labeled Z32M.440) ,does anyone know about this chip or anything causing this.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeease help me

Thanks alot ,

Muffin.

What makes you think it's a 'bmark' chip and what does the label look like ?

The car is always treated with at least 97 ron and mostley v-power. The chip had a yellow sticker on it with just z32m.440 on it does this sound like a standard one. I bought the car from a member from here jay c? He said it had a bmark chip but have no receipts for it. The car does seem alot faster than my previous manual tt with sim mods. Thats all i really know about the car. Thanks for replying to my post so quickley anymore info would really help. Muffin.

Sounds like one of my chips to me ! Dunno where the Bmark bit comes from though. It's certainly not standard.

What changed before the det started ?

umm, well it was running stock boost when i got it then i started to here it pink ocasionally then more and more as i drove it under load. I then raised the boost to see if the detonation got worse or hoping lol better, but no more or less. This is when i checked the timing and it was bang on 15 deg. I kept retarding until it went away at 9 deg! if it is one of your chips what difference to a standard one should it make and is there anythig i can check on it to hopefully tell its one of yours. This det problem is doing my head in. Muffin .

Raising boost will always make detonation worse ! The timing on mine is always set at 15 BTDC. Over a standard chip you will see a big gain once boost is raised, even significant gains over a JWT chip. And I'm certain it is mine, it's my filename and my label.

I don't really understand how you would come to run that map on std boost, has someone removed the boost controller before you got the car ?

Firstly im very happy to here its one of your chips. The guy i bought it from had one ready to put in but decided on a evo instead. Could it be a blocked injector? Muffin

Does it run properly on 6 cylinders ? Can you get a ConZult test run on it ?

lol andy... onto your next 5 cylinder zed ;)

I hope not ! I like easy fixes ....

Sounds like you need to set the timing back to 15 degrees and the boost to standard also and see if it runs OK.

Upping the boost is the worst thing you can do!

Not really. More likely timing and boost related and with warmer air temps in summer it always gets worse.

The boost jets will probably give boost spikes well over 1 bar so remove them for now and reset the time and see if it's OK.
