I've got an after market oil pressure gauge, race logic (or race tech?) with a direct oil feed so pretty accurate. Hot at 2k rpm reads 50psi. High rpm hot reads 90 - 95 psi, which is almost off the gauge! Is that normal or a tad too high? Cheers,

Trev.

Yeah 20-25 hot tickover. Dont know if you fitted the gauge but I managed to get the backlight working in it yesterday lol.

Went straight thru an MOT last week so thats good. Tony do you know what the advisory was for at the last MOT, maybe wear in rear track rod ends? Cheers,

Trev.

seems a bit high that does, at 3000 rpm it should be between 51-65 psi (hot)

that does seem high! a sticking pressure relief valve can cause this. have known hydraulic tappets to be jacked open by very high oil pressures

Car was coming off the ramps for MOT as i got there (WORLDWIDE IMPORTS,near Milton Keynes)only thing told about was steering colum lower union wearing(play in steering wheel getting excessive)so i changed that anyways.

Mine reads about 80-90spi when I floor it above 3500rpm. Thought nothing of it until now, is this bad? car has done 90,000 mile.

Saying that though I've been fixing oil leaks this week found out it was my aftermarket oil pressure sensor in the end that was squirting oil out all over the place! Put a grub screw in for now, maybe it blew cos the pressure was high?

But reads about 20-25psi when fully warmed up on tickover.

3k hot is 70 psi.

4k is 80 psi.

5k is 85 psi. Couldn't go any more last night cos it was pi**ing down!

The gauge needle goes round like a rev counter, very responsive. As Tony says, it's only done 6k miles so pressure should be good, but Paul do you know where the pressure relief valve is so I can check that? Cheers,

Trev.

Check that the engine oil cooler is getting good and warm. It only gets oil fed to it if the pressure is over about 50psi. If the cooler is cold it suggests the valve that diverts some oil to it is jammed closed and this could explain the really high pressures. Pressures up around the 90psi's usually only show on cold oil.

Good info' Willieo, I checked it today and oil cooler was getting cooler at tickover, but nice and warm after a blast, so all is working well there. Also checked pressure on a motorway run and above 5k rpm it stayed at more or less 85 psi, so all is well I think.

BTW, I remember having some interesting chats with you a couple of years ago :)
