Been wanting one for years, but all i ever see is tired, tatty ones, seen some on the for sale section on here and  really nice examples.

I'm after a nice clean Targa Manual Twin Turbo version, pref leather interior, exhaust and filter........nothing else, thats all I want.

Now I have been looking, looking and looking more, and the main worry is if something goes wrong, who do I take it to?

Is there any specialists down south near basingstoke where I can go for parts be it trim, bodywork and engine stuff??

I know for example Rotechniks in basingstoke look after RX7s at a sensible price is there a similar person/garage/tuning house that can fix it if it goes wrong?

Also is there a buyers guide?????????

What to look out for......

Is there a pro and con for manual and auto??

Lots of questions eh......could some of you help me out here as I'm so close to buying one now its scary.

Thanks guys/girls.....hope to meet some of you soon.

Oh and another thing.....

Stock vehicle power and 0-60??

Whats one with exhaust and filter???

Thanks

specialist servicing for zeds is becoming increasingly rare... but being in the southern region you are lucky and need to look no further than my signature. a nice drive down the a303 and you are @ SWZ performance :)

stock vehicle power was stated as 280 for auto and 300 for manwell... though its a grey area and dont forget most of these are around 15 years old now! 0-60 is also another grey area, but i believe it to be printed somewhere in the region of 5.5, again this varies slightly between auto and manuul :)

Joel.

Ryan / Baggins' place might be near you I think - I can't remember the name - it fell slightly out of favour with some people on here but I think they'd be ok for servicing etc.

Edit -Ztech - google it!

welcome to the club mate. i'll try and answer some of your questions:

parts: there are plenty of spares knocking about on here - Zs get broken up quite often so there's rarely a shortage of parts

there's a buyer's guide in the FAQ section: http://www.300zx.co.uk/tech/BuyingZ.htm

there are (almost) as many bods on here who are as happy with their auto as others are with their manual. the autobox is great, but as with many things in this life will become unreliable due to age and thrashing. conversions to manual are getting common and the work (inc. parts) can be done for under a grand if you know where to look. mine was initially an auto but i had it converted to manual cos the autobox failed. although i prefer manual boxes, i do miss the auto

stock TT power some say 280 some say nearer 300. either way you can get comfortably over 300 flywheel bhp for a very good price

0-60 for manual TT is quoted as 5.6secs

adding zorst and filter will free up about 15bhp

WOW Hows this for a helpful forum!!!

Its only been 5 minutes since I posted it!!

Do they tend to be pretty reliable as a whole??

I'd imagine they are, I will be using it as a daily driver 12 miles to and from work.

Thanks for the replys so far, I guess gearbox, clutch, and things like that should be looked at when buying....will use the FAQ buyers guide above, thanks for that.

:p

OOOh just thought of another question.

DO THE TARGA'S LEAK.

I had an MR2 T-bar and it was a shit....used to pour in all over me, was a nightmare.

Are they pretty good as a whole?

reliable... some are great, some aren't. make sure you stump up the extra cash for one that you know's been looked after. if you get a cheap'un, you'll be spending on her for months afterwards. targa leak: the rubber seals do tend to fail over time. they can be easily replaced, or a bit of rubber sealant does the trick.

as for 'Are they pretty good as a whole?' ... ohhhh yes! :D

I guess most parts are pretty available from nissan anyway eh?

Well lets hope I dont get a lemon, I just have to make sure I view a few cars and not buy the first one I see........which is usually what happens......DAMMIT

I guess most parts are pretty available from nissan anyway eh?

lol, NO! they may be available but they'll be chuffin expensive!!!! (everybody's heard my story where Nissan were going to charge me £800 for a steering wheel which in the end i got for £50 from a club member :smash: )

Jesus the nasty little pykies!!

Damd those nissan pre-op tranny nasties......

So I guess the best bet it to beg and whine to you lot eh!
