Been playin with the bleed valves on the zed today. The car is a uk manual and ive just had a new clutch fitted. So been waitin to turn the boost up a bit, anways i turned both bleed valves a full turn antclockwise and i got a fair increase in boost. the gauge used to read around 10 - 11 on the standard but now its readin around 14. i know the standard gauge isnt usually accurate but it still shows a healthy increase in boost.

 

I took the car for a road test and she feels alot quicker on boost, pulling really hard. Funny thing is it seams to be running loads better when accelarating. the car was apparantly fitted with bigger turbos before i bought it but had these replaced with a set of standard garrets. there is a BBR sticker on the back of the car so i had a look at the ecu and cant see any stickers on it.

 

Should i check inside the ecu to see if there is any signs of a different chip.

 

I know i can damage the engine if i run her on high boost without a decent chip, but as i said on the test drive the car ran great, the temp stayed the same even on full boost for a while.

 

Should i return the boost to standard or leave it were it is.

 

The bleed valves were already fitted to the car wen i bought her.

 

Any info would be great.

no detonation or pinking. as ive said she seams to run better now that ive turned the boost up. should i turn up till i here detonation then back down or leave well alone?

err yes! a stock chip will not be able to map fuel up to 14psi - although im sure that if you had a stock chip installed something would have gone BOOM by now.

Reckon your safest bet is get it looked at

 

Better a couple hundred for a propper set up engine than couple thousand for a propper blown up one.

Get a accurate boost gauge for starters, using the stock one is slightly better than sticking a wet finger in the plenum!

if i was running on a stock chip i,m sure the car would detonate and run like a tw@t on full boost, and i would of probably killed it by now

sod it i,m gonna buy a new chipped ecu. any ideas

Not really!-Superchips are shite!!-better get Andyp or John Dixon to supply a chip that is meant for the job,junk the s/chip IMHO of course!

BTW, 14psi is about the max you want to go as the injectors will be ready to give up,so,decent chip,14psi and sorted! :)

i reckon i,m gonna try a jwt or similar mate, the superchip i have at the moment is running great without any probs but most people on here reckon that hey are shit so dont know wat to do. as for the exhaust i could be interested if its the right one, lookin for a twin both sides. my email

pic of the exhaust bud, the only reason im selling is cause i bought a twin 4" tail pipe exhaust as it looks better with the wide arch conversion
