What will an insurance company accept as proof of Cat 1 alarm/immob?

I dont have any certificate, all I have is my original invoice from the trader I got the Z from that states I had cat one installed, and the user guide and PIN number from Toad. if this isnt enough, am i able to take it to some qualified chaps who can test the alarm and provide me with something that confirms I have Cat 1?

Needs to have the manufacturer’s Cat approved certificate stamped by the qualified installation engineer AFAIK.

there is an official VSIB certificate which I believe is issued by the installer if they are VSIB accreddited, unless OEM installed, IE Nissan NATS system which is not on our zeds

ok thanks for that - ive emailed them to see if they can give me some advice.

if they dont get back to me it looks like the only option is to get a brand new one fitted, just for the sake of a certificate FFS :headvswal :headvswal :headvswal

I thought an auto electrician could verify it

An qualified/registered installer should do an inspection for you and provide a certificate.

Doesn't the installer have to send the info on the alarm off to the alarm manufacrurer. Toad might be able to help you if they have a copy of this

We're having the very same problem with the REX, it's a con to the insurance people have. They expect us to have our wonderful alarm rip out and have another approved alarm and alarm fitter put in another for X amount of £££££'s.

Our alarm is far better and as it's rare it's less likely someone be able to get by all it's amazing featurer's to steal the car.

As said, all you need to do is take car to an Approved fitter and have them certify the installation and provide certificate.

Just contact your nearest Alarm fitter.

They offer the same service for when you fit the Alarm yourself.

There will be a fee.

thats exactly what i had to do - my local installer said he could issue me a certificate but it would mean removing teh alarm and re-installing - it was cheaper to have a new one installed.

alex

My insurance company took my word for it with mine. I havent got the cert and to be honest in the secondhand car market how can they expect everyone to have one?

Take a video of someone trying to nick the car and send it to them. :p

lol, the cert i have is just a bit of paper, and i only sent them a photocopy of that which was fine

When I bought my CAT1 alarmed skyline, the insurance would not cover the car for theft until I supplied the CAT1 cert. The vendor did not and could not supply the certificate  .

I took the car to my local automotive hi-fi alarm specialist who checked and tested the system and for the princely sum of £10 supplied me with the cert and the insurance company were happy with this :)

Yup, I had the same thing with the Sigma fitted to my old Supra.

The installer was a ham-fisted twat who turned out not to be VSIB acredited. I went to the local alarm specialists who re-wired a couple of features and issued a proper certificate for £20 + VAT.

Job done, and no need to buy a whole new system

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
