When people have replaced dials, surrounds and chrome rings.

 

Have you fitted the plastic cover back on?

Also what are the bulbs for which are attatched to the bottom of the surround??

I would'nt leave it off. Give it a good clean and polish both sides before refitting.

I had a funny feeling someone would say that, shame though.

You can buy replacement perspex covers and I don't think they are too pricey either.

is there anything else i could use to polish the scratches out as i may have some sitting around the garage.

I used 2000 wet and dry (wet) to sand the scratches out, then I used T-cut to shine it up again.

if you can get some ..jewelers rouge is fantastic stuff , used to polish out scratches in watch glass and crystal
