Hi all,

To say I'm fed up with people saying they can do "perfect" jobs and then expecting me to be happy with poor results it's starting to get to me :( The paintshop doing my car ended up saying that the wheels were not part of the job after spraying them but coming out far from perfect so I took them to the company that repaired a dent in my front alloy a few months back.

When I went there, they told me that they would be perfect, 100% so happily left them my wheels a week ago to be done. I picked them up Saturday and the first thing I noticed was a pin hole and loads of specs where there must have been dust or particle of something under the paint before they were baked. I asked about it and was told that I would only get a perfect wheel if I brought them in a perfect wheel. Mistakenly I paid them and brought my wheels home. I looked at them all again and there are these specs in places on all the wheels and some marks. The other thing is the centre caps don't fit anymore, they're just too tight!!!!

I'm gonna call them tomorrow to see what they say but I have a feeling they're gonna say it's not down to them. If they do, where do I stand legally cos I've really had enough of people wasting my time :xxx:

Any idea why the centre caps would be too tight? All I can imagine is they've putway too much paint on :wack:

Thanks

Vijay

I totally agree mate

It makes me mad when people expect you to pay them good money for a half arsed job; sadly I think it's the way things are going all over the place. people can't be bothered to do a proper job anymore and want paying a fortune for nothing.

I'd go back, saying you only noticed the rest of the poor workmanship when you got home and ask them to re-do it.

If you are a member of the AA or RAC then use their free legal service if necessary (RAC is better, the AA have a £1 per minute call centre).

Find out what professional boy they belong to (RMI, SMMT etc??) and threaten to report them; then do so if you are still not satisfied. It's a real PITA but the b@stards will only get away with it as long as we let them.

Good luck mate,

Richard :(

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Thanks guys. Can't see them being part of any governing body so fingers crossed they'll sort it out. I'm not letting it go though cos I'm fed up with these so called proffesionals

hi Vijay, bad news mate , i know you are trying your hardest to make it as you want it . some people have no pride in their work .

the powder coating on the wheels is usually thicker than paint and even pros like chip foose and OCC have to scrape a little away to get things to fit .....

good luck mate

I got the alloys for my 944 re done a couple of months agoi and the centre caps wouldn't fit.

Nightmare having to scrape off perfectly good looking paint to get them in!!

sorry to hear its not going to plan there vijay...if it goes badly revert to putting things in writing given them the opp' to put it right if they decline or ignore you...then you're free to sue the pants off them :D....anyways i'm gonna send the drain pipes today so some good news...in the mean time i did try a few dremmel bits for the ignition lock but couldnt get them to cut a groove :(....will try something else

cheers

cheers guys. Good news is when I went up there the original guy that I met when I took the wheel in to be repaired was there. Straight away he said he would re-do them himself. He couldn't/wouldn't give an explanation as to what all the marks were but just said it was in the alloy wheels - yeah right! :( Fingers crossed next week they'll look right otherwise I'll put it in writing to them :)

Cheers

Vijay

You shouldn't have paid them until they did the job right. You should have quoted him back and said are they perfect.

The thing is if you don't get it right it will niggle you everytime you see it and although everyone else proberbly won't see it will be the first thing you see.

Its 4 years since mine was done and the stone chips anoy me, but its the wing alinement that bugs me the most. Nobody sees it till I point it out but, They took the doors and tailgate of when they sprayed my car as it was a colour change. They then fitted the side skirts with the doors off. Then so the door doesn't fowl the skirts they tweeked the front fings forward at the top. It means the pannel gap at the top is slightly wider than it is at the botttom.

I can see it from a mile away and it pisses me right off. So don't let em get away with it and insist that it's done right or it will p1ss you off everytime you see the car.

I'm sick of this too, I took my car in for some new tyres on the front and they used a screw driver to remove the centre caps and put dents in my alloy's. I try to do all the work on my car now but there are some jobs you just can't do.

Well I just picked up my wheels and pleased to say I'm happy with the actual alloys this time :) The only problem I still have is one centre cap is still tight :( He said he put the minimal amout of paint on the centre cap fitting and hoped it would "pop" back in when the wheel is warm. Any ideas?

Cheers

Vijay

Stick the centre cap in the freezer to shrink it, then a bit of soap/washy liquid to lube it when you pop it in the wheel.

That's what I had to do to fit my s/s caps.

cheers bud, I'll give that a go :) The only problem is if I get a puncture when I'm out I guess :(

The frezzer trick worked a treat, shrunk the cap by about a mill and it popped right in. As I thought though, it's really tight so would be a nightmare to remove if I had a puncture :(

Use freezer spray to shrink them again when the time comes!
