hi chaps been messing with car today trying to fit a tachometer got everything working exept the needle doesnt move,,,have tried it on back of the clocks and on the wires coming out of the dash with the plugs on....it says it needs wiring onto the negative of the coil or the ignition coil but cant find it any help greatly appreciated

if its any good to you the wire that needs connecting is green

Does the actual tacho work? i.e if you put a voltage across the dial does it move.

 

If not the dial is suspect.

 

If it works thats me out of solutions.

 

I'm sure someone will be along to help however at some stage. This club is god that way.

The 300Z has six coils and none of the coil negatives go inside the car. The standard tacho in your dash is driven from a signal from the ECU. This signal also appears on the diagnostic plug IIRC.

yes mate it works checked it on my mates beemer ( then washed my hands )

Depends on the type of signal it expects to see. If it will accept a low voltage square wave input, it should be fine. If it expects to see a higher voltage it wont work.
