Hi everyone, just joined up yesterday and impressed with the number of people on here and all the resources available.

Anyway, I'm looking to get a TT manual Z and was wondering if there are any ex Supra TT owners on here and what they think of both cars in comparison.

I had a UK supra for 3 1/2 years but ended up having to sell when my insurance renewal went up to £2.5k from £1.1k !!!

Is the zed as easy to get more power out of and do they cope with an extra 50ish bhp ok?

I've got lots more to ask but I'll keep the first post short...ish, and make good use of the search button.

Cheers.

hi welcome to the club!

ive not driven a soop so i cant help there, although i can say that Z's arent as tunable in terms of big power.

however its a piece of cake to get 50 (even 100) extra horses out of the engine - basics like intake, zorst, ecu and boost controller (or jets), underdrive crank pulley, lightweight fly, that'll about see you to 400. and the car handles it well and wants more :D

yes mate - as dave said 400hp on a good engine is reasonably cheap - any more and it starts to get expensive - if you buy a stock motor you might look at upgrading the brakes first though :)

regards

I wouldn't say that it's not as tunable to get big power, It's more difficult to tune for sure, and more costly but we have to remember the bonnesville Jun tuned Zed (early 90's), holds the world landspeed record of 266MPH from a V6 and had well over 1000 rampant raging japanese horses under the bonnet.

So it can be done, but be prepared to sell your ass, the missus' ass and the kids for scientific experimentation to get the money to pay for it all.... :) :) :)

Chris, whats that blue thing that looks like an oil filter next to the cruse control bits in your engine bay?

To get an extra 50bhp from is a doddle. At the very least, just a remapped chip and a set of 1mm boost jets. You'll be looking at between 340bhp and 370bhp dependant upon engine/turbo condition.

If you are looking to buy one the chances are it's going to already have some mods done to it, or it won't cost any more to find one that does.

Have driven, been in and worked on a fair amount of Supras, both TT and NA.....they are very comparable cars, I would say neither stands out above the other in making a choice between....it more comes down to which you personally prefer..IMO.

Performance is about the same, although driving experience is different. I dont get on as well with the supra handling, they feel more cumbersome at first although you get used to it and they handle well, a bit more tail happy than the zed. Zed feels more planted on the road at high speed.

The Supra is feels a little more prestige, and the zed feels a little more sporty.

Build quality is a bit better on the supra, although nothing wrong with the zed Build quality.

Rear leg and head room(2+2) and boot space is bigger in the zed.

Both are easy to get the first 50-100hp extra,,,,after that the supra is cheaper. Both just as tunable as each other though. The zed actually makes more power and torque per PSI of boost then the supra.

Wow, thanks for all the replies, sounds like it won't be too difficult to get an extra 50bhp then and shouldn't add too much stress on the engine.

I spent in the region of £5k on my supra in mods and had an easy 420+bhp but I don't want do do this again, getting older and wiser!! Just a few light mods like exhaust, cats, maybe chip will be sufficient.

I'll keep an eye out for a car now, not looking to buy till after summer really. I've been quoted £440 insurance on a UK spec car which was a pleasant surprise, I guess it'll be a little higher on a JDM car.

Thanks again everyone.

important thing is you have seen the light, hallelujah Brother

i think you will be impressed with the zed, but aas long as you get a good one, search about and be preared to pay that little extra than normal for a nicelysorted zed
