You said 'can travel anywhere', then ask for something a bit closer....yet Mike @ MJP can send them in the post.... I'm confused.

That's the price for standard ones. As you should know, Nissan are expensive and those are most likely the rubber composite mounts not the metal engine brackets.

PU ones 'might' be cheaper...if you can indeed get PU engine mounts. Speak to Smithy about those.

you see this is the sort of thing thats making me want to sell up. the cars great apart from the prices for everything and anything at all. even bits that are the same as other cars are stupidly overpriced.

its not like they're harder to make or made better or from better materials. just a total rip off for everything. if i was paying for quality i'd be ok with it but i dont see OE nissan stuff in that good a light as to pay more than better made stuff.

ok, rant over. now...

who's got some cheap 2nd hand mounts? ;o)

Yeah that's true, but what you have to understand is, although the car itself is cheap to buy (now), it was developed as a luxury sports car and parts/prices reflect that. It's just the way it is. You're not going to be able to get parts for the prices you'd pay for Vauxhall Cavalier spares.

Nissan sold very very few 300zxs in the UK, it wasn't for the mass market, a bit like Toyota Supra spares being more than that of a Corolla....or even Ferrari 348 spares being hundreds of percent higher than that of spares for a Fiat Panda. etc etc, the examples run on.

thats a fair point and i dont expect parts to be cheap... if they're car specific.

things like panels, engine bits, etc i'd expect to be through the roof but im presuming these mounts are fairly universal between models? they look VERY similar to patrol mounts and every other cheapo engine mount in the world. there's just nothing there to justify the price as with a lot of Z parts. rubber bung with a bolt in each end. no special metals, designs, etc - nothing. if it was the actual mount i wanted i could understand it as its going to be a casting they wont use very often but the rubber bits are just cheap, mass produced tat TBH.

what i really hate is that i'll be selling one Z anyway but at this rate i'll be selling the other just down to the costs vs what you get. i dont mind the 15mpg (or less) and i dont mind it eating tyres all the time at £200/pair but i do mind having to pay over the odds for things.

even ford transit mounts look similar.

Yep Noletech Do PU engine mounts. I have them so does Mac 1, Lymon, Nend and a few others. They retail at about £89 for the pair.

however there are issues with them deforming with heat saturation from the turbos and to avoid this they must be heat sheilded.

Somehow doubt that they are the same as Nissan Patrols....even that is a Luxury 4x4, rather than a cheapo 1.0 Micra.

Also, Z32 mounts and bushes...well the big ones are silicone filled, not just rubber blocks.

Have a look on TTnet - I think someone did a write up on how to use ford motor mounts with slight adaptation ;)

see my point? at that price im as well off using the ones off my manual on the auto and getting these for the manual (manual ones were only done just before i had it).

it just annoys me that someone not connected with nissan can develop and make a better (well stronger) mount and then sell them at just over 1/3rd of the cost. i wouldnt mind paying the £242 if it was worth it but its just not.

lol. i knew it! lol

nice one andy. and i'll bet that smaller ones are available for things like V6 sierras, etc? i'll be going up the motor factors tomorrow and having a dig through some specs to see if there's a better match. if not i'll be ordering my F150 mounts. lol

actually, thinking about it, im sure there'll be a list on a computer somewhere that gives what other vehicles are fitted with mounts of that size? cant hurt to look.

  • Author

that doesnt sound like what i meant. what i meant is its like on the back of wiper blade packets where it says "fits ...." then a list of cars/makers. i'd think the rubber bit of the mount is one from about 50 different types in the world and there will be a fair few motors using it. the metal bits of the mounts are cast in different ways to meet the rubber so it would be the same points of stress on the mount for pretty much any RWD V-engine?

Just go and buy an old Ford Sierra and have done with! ;)

Bet those F150 mounts are stronger than the Nissan ones as well.

i was thinking about that for a bit and i've come to the conclusion that i could run a 300bhp cossie on a fair bit less money than a Z even after taking a re-build in every 2 years or so.

hmmm....

you know the parts are overpriced when there's people breaking good cars for spares. shame.
