Seem to be loads of people on here dislike Clifford, personally had mine fitted 4 years ago and not once had a false alarm, lean into the car with the targas off and you know its fitted, mine is the G5 Clifford Concept, no doubt they have a newer model now. Alot of the reliability is to do with the fitter so make your choice wisely on where you get it done and even travel a bit to find the right person.

Its all down to who fits Clifford I had a halfwit fit mine and it was a nightmare. Look at the Clifford site I think it'd under General Electrics or something similar. It explains how the connectors have to be install etc and why. Then go and buy a Toad system and save yourself any future hassel.

SIGMA S30 for its size, reliability and the unique keyguard system that its got, were even if your keys get nicked you still have to type a 4 pin code into the alarms keypad (small and neatand usually stuck to top drivers corner of windscreen. user features are programmed with this aswell

I fit them aswell :hyper:

I've got the clifford concept 650 G5....... remote start, turbo timer and all the normal other stuff. cost just over 600 notes but I got a very reputable company to install it (i believe an alarm is like your brakes, you should spend a little bit extra)

works fantastic and like Suffolkzx said, even with the targas off the alarm won't go off, but as soon as you put your hand in you know the alarms there

Yep thats what I had the concept 600 7point imobiliser all singing and dancing. Bought it from a company called Gap Security. I know other people that have had them and been reasonably reliable, but Bob at safe and sound says that Clifford are the most popular alarm system to go wrong. He also says they're the most comon that he removes because of problems.

Mine was fine for about 18 months then went up the spout. It imobilized my car and they'd come and plug the lap top in and reprogram it then a week later I'll be calling them out again and agian. Each time they took longer and longer until the last time when the car was imobilized for 3 months.

I'd say stay clear of Cliffords.

got mines fitted at DRIVERS in glasgow, they do stuff like alarms and ice installs but they also do exhausts suspension and wheels etc....but in Glasgow they're work is expensive in comparison to others (some places quoted me 450 quid to install the alarm) but the quality of work is impressive. You get what you pay for, with an alarm get it done right first time!

in regard to the build quality of Clifford, i had the same system on my impreza for over a year and never had a problem, however, when i was shopping around to get this installed i did insist on a lifetime guarantee........DRIVERS offered me this.

as for insurance, it does not invalidate the CAT1 element. Norwich Union are completely aware of the remote start on my car and have no problems with it! (as long as its installed by an approved fitter)

I think you will find remote start invalidates Cat 1 status but I may be wrong.

No your right.remote start or cars left with the engine running using a turbo timer will cause a major headache if it was to be stolen.the engineer told me this when my toad was fitted.he also said a zed would only need cat 2 cover due to its age.

i've had several different makes of cat 1 alarms fitted to various cars over time and everyone of the b@st@rds goes off on its own

Bought it from a company called Gap Security.

I'd say stay clear of Cliffords.

I think GAP has a very bad reputation when it comes to fitting of alarms, mine was fitted by a local car radio shop where the owner has owned many Jap sports cars, fitted them to 300's before and has a long standing good reputation which is why I chose them and I believe why mine has been 100% reliable.

yes you are lol ;)

a turbo timer yes, but remote starts are ok

and as suffolk says the art of a good alarm is in the fitting, (and gap ARN'T good fitters  )

i also have a clifford fitted with all bells and whistles and in 3 years never had a problem, also had toads and never a problem, but if its all the flash gear you want then clifford is probably the best option, if its down to earth protection your after then toad

Toad, have one of the (if not THE) best reputations out there, but as said quality of the fitting/fitter is very important.

This is true, also toad own Sigma.

I will fit SIGMA S30 cat 1 with cert for £290

i have a cobra 7777. it is ok but a few little things annoy me like it doesnt make a sound when locking or unlocking (apart from the noise from the central locking) so you have to always check the doors which make the remote locking a bit obselete. Actual security of it seems spot on. Seemed a little overly senstive but think i have turned that down now and went a bit mad when it got water in it but that is fair enough. Not sure how well it works with turbo timer but will soon find out as have one on the way!

I have had toad alarms before i really like them. they have loads of features unlike the cobra but dunno how it rates against it for actually keeping the car secure.

I have had 3 toad AI606 alarms now and I have never had a problem, great bit of kit. Only problem with the latest one is that it doesn't chirp when you activate and deactivate it, well not a problem as such but annoying cause you have to look at the hazards when you lock it. Fitter says it was something too do with EU regulations on sound pollution???? madness

cheerZ for your input on this guys...

as with anything it seems there are good reviews and bad reviews. it seems markzx had a particularly bad experience but as stated i think its prolly more due to the installation than the hardware itself. the company i will use are one of very few in the uk who are authorised by clifford themselves (incidentally GAP security who operate under the clifford.co.uk url are not clifford approved dealers/installers!) they also give a lifetime garuntee so il pop round to them to discuss my options.

the clifford webby states that the new intellistart systems do not invalidate the cat1 certification.

im hoping i will lower the installation costs as i will remove and refit everything they need... most of it will be removed to setup the install from my old zed.

Joel.

do you offer fancy functions such as full closure and remote start?... i like gadgets!

Joel.

Can add total closure but not autostart as the S30 is more of a very secure alarm system rather than a gadgety one. It does have the capability to control a remote start system but sigma dont make one.
