What a ****ing nightmare this is turning out to be

checked double checked triple checked if got the right wire on ECU

spliced into it connected other end to earth reconnected battery reset ecu with datascan started up

Code 34

Attached a pic of wire used, can anyone verify its the right one

are you just getting the 34 or allso going into safe boost aswell

ide do a contiunity test and iff thats ok just put the resistor in the dett plug

Certainly looks like the right one to me, pin 23. Although in the manual it's supposed to be a white wire there.

must be a chip problem bud

What do you mean by chip problem bud?? faulty??

Chip is a SE one

Going to double check everything tomorrow again :smash:

thats deffo the same wire i spliced into mate!

told you it was yellow

where you have the black tape is where i spliced into mine, i then run the other end of the resistor to the earth (body) of the car......... i can't see that on yours, have you wired to the body of the car? have you left the battery disconnected for a while (i left mines for 2 hours!)

Check that it isn't shorted to ground like mine was! I got a code 34 after doing exactly what you've done. That's why I put the resisitor inside the ECU in the end and chopped the short-circuited wire on the outside of the ECU (Pin 23).

how do I check it isnt shorted bud??

so basically you got rid of the wire comming from pin 23??

hadnt connected it yet bud

reset ecu with datascan

have you got a good connection from wire through the resistor onto the ground?

You need to check the resistance from pin 23, on the loom side, to ground. It'll be less than 1 Ohm if it's a total short. The previous owner fooked about with the loom until the cows came home. I hate that coont :mac1:

cheers bud will be back at it tomorrow or the day after, so expect some PM's  ;)

No probs, I'm back in work tomorrow so I'll be checking in here more often  .

Looking forward to seeing the outcome of this one!

Just checked this and got a reading of 1 Ohm????

no more code34

chopped the wire from pin 23 put in resistor connected other end to earth reset ecu went for a spin.

check with datascan code 55

but get code 54 flash up sometimes auto trans???

car is a manual

will this affect anything ie fueling timing etc like code 34??

just seen a kink in a pipe that connect up boost controller so pipes of an renewed an hopefully all ok

If you have a chip that was originally based on an auto map, then that could cause the code 54 - nothing to worry about.

cheers andy its a SE chip

nice one mate.......... how good a feeling is it when it runs right

just gotta find my boost leak now got a load of silicon of smithy a while back so thats my job tomorrow

  • 3 months later...

I have a car with an intermittent code 34, bloody annoying!! is it best to splice into the pin 23 on the harness and then ground with a 1Mohm resistor or to actually cut the pin 23 wire and then ground with a Mohm resistor?
