Had a similar problem few years ago on a GT4, white smoke but more on idle, turned out turbo had gone & oil was burning directly on the cat.

White smoke tends to be shot turbos. Doubt PCV replacement will solve that issue I'm afraid.

HI CARS NOT BEEN USED FOR OVER 12 MONTHS AND ITS BEEN FINE UP UNTILL NOW, IT HAD A STARTING PROB FOR 2 WEEKS, THE ENGIN WAS FLOODED FROM 2 WEEKS OF CRANKING ITS NOT BEEN ON ROAD YET BUT MY DUMP VALVES SEEM TO BE WHISTLING LIK THEY USE TO, ALSO HOW COME PASSENGER SIDE WAS SMOKING BUT AFTER ABOUT 30 MIN THE SMOKE WENT THEN IT STARTED ON DRIVER SIDE?? CHEERS

Turbo seals. Smoke from exhaust is usually a sign the Turbo seals have gone especially on tick over if the car has been de-catted, having the car sitting around a year dosnt do these cars any good its possible oil has seeped into the exhaust over time from the turbos and its just burning it off

Yeh Probs Ill Have To See Ill Give It A Good Run Blast B4 It Goes For Its Mot As I Dont Think The Crankin Ha Helped As 2 Weeks Of Constant Crankin Will Have Flooded The Engine Silly As These Engines Can Get Badly Flooded, Also I Just Remembered I Ran Out Of Pety So There Was A Can Full Of Pety In The Garage So I Used It But Later Found Out That My Dad Had Taken It Out Of This Guys Car When He Filled Up With Unleaded In His Diesel Duhhh Loll But The Mixture Was Bout £10 Diesel In Tank And £30 Unleaded This Could Be The Cause As Well Couldnt It?? Tnx For Your Help Guys

I would suggest draining the tank completely and putting fresh fuel in as fuel degrades over time, also the mixture wouldn't help either. If it solves the problem, great, because sorting the tubs is expensive.

right lads just droped car off for mot (hope it fly's thru it) when i started it it had smoke comming out white smoke it kept comming thick then slight but did notice when i rev it smoked more???? when i drove off i could see smoke behind me but not heavy just behind car i booted it a few times not hard but got turbos kickin in, also boost gauge is working also i can hear the dump (ssqv) whistling so i gess tubs are fine, when i got to the mot center bout 2 mils from me house parked car up left it running smoke was there but not as much as b4, i waited there 20 min as i was waiting for a lift back noticed that the smoke had litraly gone on idle but when reving it it was there but not as much as it first did?? my oil seems to be fine not losing any either! does this still sound like tub seals? like i said b4 starting prob there was no smoke from car its only come after.

white smoke is water, normally condensation. Blue smoke is oil and grey/black is fuel.

the smoke seems to be fading away on idle truth fully as i was cleaning the car there was litraly no smoke but when i reved it there was a fair bit of smoke puffed out of exhusts, cant realy tell if the smell is oil smell, its hard to tell its defo not blue smoke or black.

hi vijay some have sugested on here that white smoke means tub seal?? im geeting confused loll, you know the probs iv had iv not managed to give it a realy good blast yeat as its not motd or taxd yet, iv only drove it like 4 miles 2day taking it for mot and back the smoke seems to be less than it was few days ago when it first started aftr the starting prob, defo on idle it has calmd down a lot, its only when i rev it when it smokes but not as much as it did few days ago! also do you know neone with a known good ecu for a uk tt it has to have the chip socket in for me to put my jwt chip in tnx mate

white smoke def water in combustion chamber check coolant to see if its low, if it was condensation it would burn off when engine warms up, possible cracked head or head gasket leaking slightly allowing water to get into combustion chamber especially if the engine has over heated at some point, it may only be leaking when engine is under load, get the system pressure tested you could take out the plugs and disconect injectors so no fuel gets in crank the engine over and see if any water sprays out the plug holes

no im not loosing water at all, and iv cranked car without any plugs last week i felt air pump out when cranking it but no water at all, the car has been stood for 12 months o so!

if you get jacket water spraying out the plug hole your in the deep sh*t, I hope for you it aint that

if the head gasket had gone chances are youd be getting emulsification, and over heating problems as well as loosing alot of coolant, althoug can be caused by condensation. If your not loosing water then i doubt that it is head gasket block or liner probs, more likely tub seals are failing,as already said.

We would like to tell you more details.

right noticed the car seems to smoke i little on idle when your on trafic lights or stoped in trafic after a run!! its white wmoke tho, also car takes 5 attempts to start, and when it does theres white smoke, first key it just turns over secound key turns over with a bit of fire up third key fires up but stalls forth key fires up but revs graduly build up, also i have to help it with accelarator any ideas anyone? i tested the earth wire from the ign coil relay to the ecu orange pin 16 and there is a curcuit there! so does that mean ecu is f*ckd?? will these probs be due to the ecu? has anyone got spare i can borrow to check? tnx

hi tnx but like i said with starting probs at first plugs had been out loads of times and crankd but no water spitting out at all, tnx

hi no water loss no oil loss also iv checked oil cap for mayo crap but nothing there, cars not over heated once i have 2 gauges as well one standard and one after market. cheers

might be worht you having the pcv valves out first, for either a clean or a replacement, but this may not help at all, but it might. I'd be inclined to do that first before going straight in for the tubs. When i had the white smoke at idle i changed the pcvs and lucky me seems to have done the trick, try the easy less expensive remedies first if i were you, is the car due a good service??? could be something minor. like i said i would do the easy bits first before fearing the worst.

All the best

as for your probs starting, thats abit of a round the houses job, again start easy and then work up, or raid your piggy bank and get it in the garage for someone to have a proper look at it, sometimes its better to pay out than drive yourself mad with it.
