Been off work for a week now with a really nasty strain of tonsilitus. Only the 2nd or 3rd time I've ever had it, but this is by far the worst I've ever been and have felt nearly as bad as I did over xmas.

 

My tonsils are so swollen, that one of them is touching my uvula!! My tongue has also turned a pale shade of white, my tonsils are now ulcerous!!

 

Not to meantion the nausia, migrane + aches and pains!

 

See below for nasty photos of the dreadful state of my tonsils. What you can't see is that the white ulcerations on the tonsils actually go down into my gullet!!!!

 

Go to bed shivering wearing clothes and the heating on flat out, wake up at 2am in an absolute pool of sweat! Was in so much discomfort last night that I had to go to the local motorway service station at 3am to get yet another packet of neurofen!!

my throat hamorraged from the back of one of my tonsils, cue 4 days in hospital and my tonsil welded shut with a soldering iron.

 

I now only have 1 and a half tonsils lol

Oh I feel for you mate. I used to get that a lot. I used to stick an ice lolly down my throat for relief.

same happened to my wife for about 10 weeks. she then got a bad cold and its not come back. weird!

I had in on and off for 20 odd years, horrid bug...eventually had um taken out when i was 26yrs old, worst thing i ever had to go thru, got infected etc, bleedy mouthfulls of blood... but worth that one horrid experience as never have to go thru sore swollen nasty throat again :)

not had it for a couple of years. toncils are so scarred that there isnt much left of tehm nowdays. used to get it 3-5 tmes a year. but not bad enough it seems to have them removed.

 

its an old wives remedy, but it does work. gargle with salt

 

sympathy mate, i know how bloody painfull that can be

ive had similar but not as bad, when it hurts to swallow and breath. hot red wine with cinemon helps. hope it gets better soon Si

I used to have loads of problems with my tonsils so I had 'em taken out.

Sympathise with you mate...had tonsillitis 8 times in the last 2 years. Doc says next time they'll look at taking them out....says they try not to these days as they're part of your immune system :confused:

 

Get plenty of paracetamol down you too - you can take them at the same time as nurofen as they work differently. Paracetamol works much better on the fever!

 

Gargling soluble aspirin's good too, but you'd need to drop the nurofen if you do that or risk OD'ing. Failing that you could try gargling diluted tcp - tastes grim but it is anti-bacterial.

 

Warm drinks/soup and ice cream helps make the pain go away for a bit too.

Felt a lot better today and yesterday and the man-jism has now gone thank fook. One of my tonsils is still the size of Newport Pagnell, but doesn't seem to hurt anymore. Just feel totally drained.

 

Seem to have a pain when eating though which isn't associated with the tonsils which I'm concerned about.

 

Cheers Konrad....do think I've overdone it with the Neurofen. ie, 3 packets in 5 days. Not very good thing really. But not had any today.

 

I've lost an entire stone as well whilst doing this. Little under weight now.

You should be alright mate - nurofen's not bad - you'd know by now if you'd OD'd. You don't want to stay on em for too long thoough cos it can cause stomach ulcers but short term use is ok - soldiers live on the stuff cos it's good for shin-splints. Just try not to take more than the 2 every 4 hours.

 

Paracetemol's the one you really need to worry about - dead easy to overdose & die on that!
