Hello again guys,

Ahhhhhhh a Sunday and another problem with the Z !!!!!!

The car was running perfect until the fuel pump started whining and then all sorts of funny running, then cut out and wouldnt start for about 1 hour (very inconvenient) as i was stuck on a duel carrige way doh ! Then on the way home finew one mintue and then the pump starts whining and again funny running

I was thinking that it my be from fuel starvation but any pointers and how much is a fuel pump and is it easy to replace myself ?

thanks again for reading.

I've got a pump if you need it! I'm only down the road from where you are!

Started it up this morning and fine ? ?!? !? !?! ?

The only thing i can think of is that i put some slick 50 fuel system treatment in it about 3 days ago could that be causing it ?? maybe.

Just as a precaution should i go for a walbro fuel pump they are only £80 or get a 2nd hand one which was very kindly offered ? ?

Stick with the standard as the fuel pump controller is designed for that pump and not Walbro. The Walbro may not like the low voltage at times. BTW, if you problem returns, the controller would be next best place to start looking.

Might be OK. The Nissan fuel pump controller drops the voltage to the pump under certain circumstances. If your pump isn't designed to run at the lower voltage it could cause damage to the windings / brushes. Then again, because its submersed in fuel, it may not be a problem. May be someone who knows a bit more about motors could comment.

May just be a case of modifying the fuel pump controller or bypassing it. Don't run your pump straight off the ignition though as there is a safety feature where if the motor is not running, the fuel pump stops. It stops fuel geting pumped everywhere in case of a leak / fire.
