Well my patience has been tested and i think it's gone with the purple nasty.

I just don't think i want to chuck any more money at it :(

i've spent nearly 2000 on it in the past couple of months and now it needs even more work doing.

I think i'm going to break it cause it's worth naff all.

I'll have a think about it first but to be honest it's been on my mind for a while now, the terrible fuel economy as a day to day car, the fact i never really get to drive it like i should do and the endless problems with the suspension especially the HICAS

I should have never sold my NA, it was bombproof, and ever since i've had this car its in a much much worse state of repair, the interior's cack and the first mot it went for cost me 620 quid.

Doomed from the start, so could be the end of zed ownership for me folks :(

Get a cheap runaround & keep the Z as a weekend car,

we have all felt like your feeling mate................... stick it out

i think you will regret it if you sell/break

Sorry to hear all that mate.

It must be gutting to have to keep pouring money into a car - I think you've been pretty much doing that since you bought it too.

I'm never convinced 'cheap' runabouts are the answer... although they work for some people - I guess they're a bit of a gamble.

Hard to say what the answer is - sell yours and buy another? That's another gamble too. Keep it... maybe it'll keep needing money spending.

I wish I could give you a perfect answer - owning any Zed is always going to mean a risk of a big bill round the corner and that probably applies to any fast, cool looking older car you can buy cheap.

What's Guvnor's sig? Something like this:

"Cheap, fast, relaible - pick any two"

FWIW If I was starting in 300ZX ownership now I'd buy a really nice, fresh of the boat import in the spec I wanted. Once they've been in this country a while, there's a good chance the butchers and skinflints have had their wicked way with them.

If you really think the car's going to keep giving trouble, sell it and get a low miles fresh import IMHO.

ps SMW1 - £60K! On an auld Datsun? Clucking bell! You could have got one of them Supras for that. ;)

I don't use mine everyday as I have to use a van for work, but I reckon that if you're using it for everyday menial tasks, then a little runaround (like a Cavalier/Astra 'cos I've always found Vauxhalls to be reliable) would be advisable for you. Just nipping to the shops, or going round a mates house - stop start stop start - isn't gonna do the Z the world of good anyway so leave those jobs to the daily hack, and enjoy driving the Z the way it was meant to be driven at the weekend.

That's what I'd do mate :)

A few people have said - Sell it, and get an NA....but what percentage of the actual problems are directly related to it being a TT, if any !?

Sounds to me like you were one of the unlucky ones, you bought a car that was'nt as well looked after as you expected and needed work. You've spent a large amount already sorting out the problems, dont give up now.

Get yourself a cheap Diesel runabout, you can get all sorts of cars from Auctions with T&T for less than £500, and many under £200. Mid 90's cars such as Mondeos, lagunas, 306's, vectras, meganes, Astra's, mk5 escorts even e36 Bmw's.

You'll save a fortune on Fuel, and get to enjoy the car as a hobby rather than the cost of running it as a Daily driver.

Get it removed/eliminated then, or go the whole hog and put an NA rear subframe on - you won't get HICAS problems then ;) :wack:

bring it down here and i will fix it for you free, just bring the bits... oh yeah cant promise it will work again but hey... i tried

Proper club spirit.

I drive a Fiat Punto 1.2 up to 50mpg, the Z is for fun and if I can’t afford to fix stuff it stays in the garage till I can. I did use a Z as a main car for two years and it’s not cost effective on petrol and the more miles you put on the more times you need to fix it.

For the amount of money you have put into your Z you could have bought a good little run about, then just spend money on your Z when you want to. That’s when it turns back into a fun car instead of a money pit.

Felt like that myself last weekend while lying under the Z covered in oil. I only use mine at the weekend and cant wait for Saturday now - forgot all of that anger and frustration from last week. Get yourself a weekday runaround if you can.

get shot, i know some of the history of that car and its a fookin pig, chunk new thiswhen he was selling it to you, if i knew you were thinking of buyingit i would have talked you out of it

its always had probs with this and that and wasnt very well looked after, shorey had it for a while and he tried his best to fix the problems but to no avail

get shot and save for a decent one, wetehr it be TT or NA

I was like this a couple of weeks ago when a head bolt stripped.

I was ready to break it.

Mate, my first Zed blew a head gasket, payed £1250+vat to have it fixed and told it was fine when they did compression test etc... only to find a few weeks later that no.6 cylinder was shot. Turbos where spose to be ok, according to a specialist garage, no they werent. Snapped down pipe bolts on exhuast, loadsa wholes in exhaust. I'de spent 3k on the car, £1250 for the h/g and a few thousand on upgrades. Sold for 1K.

Bought what I thought was a descent Z for £5500. Spent about 1k on that in the first week on upgrades.

Then an awful screal. Spent £300 on cam belt and idlers, didnt sort it. Eventually changed the oil pump (pain in the arse) that sorted it.

Thought I had a sorted car now. Then pop, coolant everywhere on the back of the Isle of Wight.

Engine out now, spent a few grand on it since engines been out.

Just throwing money at it, but I come on here and moan, then people always persuade me to keep her!!!!

Oh and once its all back together, then theres the MOT.

And I had a wheel stud strip a while ago doing it up........I just get endless problems.

Probably more I have forgot about.

i use an Omega as my daily hack, and spend on rebuilding the zed when i can, i've owned it for about 10 months now and havent even driven it! ok a few little small treips up to the round about and back, but thats it, done about 30 miles in it since owning it.

i know how you feel, i just want it finished, now but know i've got about another £2000. till it's just how i want it.

chin up though, get a cheap run around, i paid £600 for an R plate omega on ebay, and the only thing it needed for an MOT was a ball joint a knew a spanner monkey and got it all sorted and the MOT for £60.00, just needs a new exhaust now, but i call that a running cost.

as has been said , spend when you can and what you can, try get some of your life back, and in a month or 2 have another think about it, if you still feel the same then get shot and if you want get another one.

at the end of the day all the advise here is good advise but only you can make the decission.

Neil

I don't see the sense in using a Zed as a daily driver and spending all that money on fuel etc when it could be put toward better uses. I bomb around in a little 106 diesel and by doing that it helps me be able to afford a lovely house, no debts and a nice Zed to play in now and again. I suppose its all about priorities and we're all different I suppose, I just couldn't justify it but thats just me.

Hi,

I had a Z32NA as a daily car back in 2000 and that was expensive to run on a daily basis, plus any repairs had to be done to keep it on the road. They are now old, fairly complex cars, to be used as a daily runner!

Nowadays I use my 300ZX only as a weekend/summer car on a classic insurance policy and if it does need money spending I can leave it parked in the garage until I can get it done.

Cheerz,

Jez.

do as i did matey, use the zed as a second car, only cost me £300 insurance as classic saves loads in petrol bud & gives you plenty of time to sort out your zed

christ loads of replies :D lol

PK1, mate that's a lovely offer but i wouldn't want you straining yourself at the mo... plus it'd be nice to be able to drive it afterwards lol

Well i knew within a few weeks it was going to be a bad purchase but hey the colours good

Ah i'll have to sort it out unless someone has some space to break the sod?

More expense

When i finally have a couple of hundred free i'll get myself another reliable, bombproof granada scorpio and run that day to day but till then i'll just have to make do with the zed

This is exactly my situation and its great! :hyper:

oh well might as well pop down then anyway, and let me break it properly then..
