Ok shit can that, just been out to her (god its cold!) and its only the stereo, checked the fuse and all is good, but still no joy, tries 2 different head units and neither work! :headvswal

Is there an inline fuse behind the stereo?

Have you got a power tester thingy to see if you have got power at the head?

its a after market adapter and i don't have a fluke to test the power, i may go out today and try to find one.

So there isn't another fuse etc it could be? most likely just faulty wiring?

If you have a bulb and housing you could try using that. One wire to live and one to earth and the bulb should light if you have power.

some looms don't have a ground wire in them the zed as standard has a seperate ground wire attached to the car behind the stereo on a spade crimp, the other end gets bolted to the back of the stereo (using short bolts!)

right after shorting my black to my orange lead I have power! :hyper:

But have no rear speakers! I'm guessing the wiring adapter is the wrong 1?

Were getting there then.

Have you defo not got rear speakers or could they just not be turned on on the system. ( had a woman at work once phoned the engineer because the computer wouldn't work. He came and turned the brighness up)

As the wiring is already suspect however it is more than likely that.

Check the wires are connected at both ends first and go from there.

asuming stock speakers, have a look at the loom / connector for the back speakers they may be 5 wires on the car loom and only 4 on the adapter, the extra wire would be power to the built in amp(s) connect it to the switched output of the headunit that makes the electric ariel go up / down

as above. the amp just needs a power supply to turn it on, but i was under the impression that all the speakers in a zed required the amp to work, but i could be wrong.

I found it easier in mine to just bypass the amplifier as most headunits today are better than the crap amp in a zed. much easier and around a 2 hour job. plus bin the amp in the boot as its just extra wheight.

They are for the Bose system speakers Just take a look at yours and see if they have Bose on them, if they do, then theres your answer, if they have another make, then you don't have the amps fitted :D

well iv had a look at my rear speakers and there is no branding on them, although iv found 2 suspicious looking wires in my boot floor that go to nothing so I'm thinking they may be disconected! the speakers look crap, where can I get some good (& cheap!) replacements? Or is e-bay my best bet?

Depends what you've currently got there at the moment. If it's a simple metal bracket on each side that wouls fit a oval (6x4) speaker, then you can fit standard ones (See Legrath, as he had some recently)

If you have a box arrangement either side, then this will take a 4" round three bolt fitment speaker, and you can buy adaptor plates from eBay over in the US, then you can fit 6 1/2" speakers of your choice.

They are 6x4, ill have a look on e-bay :D

In that case, we may be barking up the wrong tree!!! The 6x4's are NOT ampped! They are normal speakers, and if they are both not working, then that's not the entire answer to your problem yet!

Ill pull the speakers out this weekend and have a look if they are hooked up

if it is a uk spec then as stock there is an amp hidden under the trim on the right of the boot nearish to the speaker, the stock speaker is a round (4inch?)

the stock uk fronts didn't have an amp

sometimes when these are changed to 6x4s the amp is still left in line as the person changing the speakers dosn't realise

some jap spec cars came with plastic speaker units with amp and speaker built in and some i belive didnt, mine has these in the front (no back speakers as convertable)

the bose amp / speaker system works on a much lower impedance than standard speakers and therefore you ideally want to bypass the bose amp if you are changing the speakers. if you bypass the amp you definatly want to change the speakers
