Well i picked up my zed 2 days ago and its been running fine.

Tonight I was coming home from work and heard a clunking noise coming from the passenger front wheel. It slowed down and speed up when I slowed down/sped up.

Anyway, it got quite bad after about 1 mile and it sounded like i had a flat tyre so I pulled over into a farm lane/dirt track and as I came to a halt I heard a clang and something fell off my car...

Looked along the track and found a piece of metal with a load of nuts and bolts all over the floor.

Inspection of the front passenger wheel I noticed that my Nismo LM 2-piece split rim alloys had almost come apart and nearly all but 3 bolts & nuts were left in the wheel around the outer edge. There must have been around 30 that had come out. The metal that had come off the car was the plate that goes behind the rim and the bolt goes through this and the nut tightens upto it.

I'm going to take the wheel off tomorrow and have a look at it but i've definately lost a couple of these plates as they are in sections along the road.

These are the wheels in question...

Does anyone know where I can get some more plates to go around the back/inside of the wheel or where I can send the wheel to get it all repaired and fully working again. It looks easy enough to do (just bolting it up again) but I need the plates that sit behind it.

I'm located in the West Midlands near Wolverhampton.

I'd happily take some pics of the plates I mean if someone wants confirmation of what they look like.

It could have been quite dangerous. Had to be taken home on a low loader as my spare wheel was flat as a pancake.

Hope someone can help.

Chris

Wheel has been balanced and still the same problem. I'm thinking buckled wheel/distorted tyre..?

Going to zedworld tomorrow to have it all checked out and hopefully it will be resolved soon. Not a great start to zed ownership, hoping this isn't the first of many problems to come.

it could be possible you have buckled the hub which the wheel bolts on to, as it has a stub axle that goes through the wheel bearing in the steering knuckle and its the rotation of the disk which is a floating disk as it pases through the caliper or the wheel touching the caliper as it revolves. Do you feel any movement through the brake peddle?

When braking I don't feel any juddering like a warped disc. The juddering only seems to occur when accelerating and is more obvious at speeds around 60-70mph but can occur at lower speeds (i.e 40mph). At 70mph the steering wheel shakes quite violently, shaking all my arms.

I have noticed that when i start her up in the morning and set off, for the first 5-10 mins I can hear a bit of a clunk coming from the front passenger wheel area when going over bumps and what not. This clunk seems to dissapear into the journey though.

chriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiist!!! i spotted this car in a classified add on ebay and would have bought it if mortgage money had come through!!!

you might not feel anything through the brake thinking about it as the caliper is bolted to the steering knuckle and the whole assembly would move together. What wheels are you running on, the damaged one or another one? Have you tried changing the 2 front wheels over to see if it does the same on the other side?

We are going to try 2 new front wheels on the car tomorrow off another zed to see if the problem persists.

I'll let you know how it goes.

ChrisK, you hav'nt had this car long and I don't think any passer by would be able to undo all those bolts, one or two maybe, but all of them?????...(Try another wheel yourself and see!) I'd take it back to the garage, tell em what happened and say you want the wheel repaired/replaced and the rest of them checked as well or, you're off to get an AA inspector to do it and pass them the bill!!

It sounds to me like the wheels have been refurbed and they've not been put back together properly (So check the rest either way ASAP!) but in terms of being 'fit for purpose' etc in teh time you've had it, i'd say the garage needs to be sorting this one out for you.....It was'nt a private sale/sold as seen as far as i'm aware?!!

The garage are sorting it for me mate. Cheers for your advice. Im off there tomorrow and they are only 2 miles away from Zedworld so its going there and any cost incurred is being sorted by the garage I bought it from.

As you say its probably from a previous refurb as the alloys were in immaculate condition. I'll ask them to check the rest of the wheels out.

MASSIVE THANKS TO ZEDWORLD.... for sorting this problem out.

Turned out to be the spigot rings in each hub stopping the wheel from tightening up as close as possible and therefore the wheels were all over the place.

Weird how the problem only seemed to surface after I had the problem with the split rim nuts/bolts coming out. Anyway, all sorted and the garage I bought it from are paying for the bill.

Whilst I was there I had my speedo replaced to a 180mph jobbie with de-limiter so i'm now reading in mph :)

Anyone interested in an aftermarket veilside 320kmph speedo with a mines boost gaugage, please let me know. chris.kinsey@gmail.com

Chris, did you have to buy any new bolts for these wheels. I was told by prestine wheels in Milton Keynes that they are about £10 each!!! Which seems crackers.

What torque settings did you use when you tightened the outer bolts up?

Your misfortune has helped me. Having looked at your picture, I didnt realise that two pice rims actually split that way. Have been meaning to send mine to a specialist to have them done but I reckon I should be able to do this myself quite easily.

Best of luck with your repair and I would suggest that your replacement wheels are either not balanced correctly or maybe even buckled - hence the reason for the judder. Try and borrow a good set from someone before spending too much checking your steering etc out.
