hi i have a fault with my power steering and i waz told to replace the solinoid and i waz just wondering were its locatid as i have a good solinoid to go in.

Featured Replies

The solenoid is part of the power steering rack.

Are you sure it's the solenoid as there's usually not a lot to go wrong with them?

HICAS solenoid maybe? the cylinder type thing behind the driverside headlamp?

You sure you dont have a faulty speed delimiter chip? Assuming you have a Jap import that is. If you have and the dials have been changed to 180MPH instead of the 180KPH then just remove the chip.

You'll be limited to 115MPH but it'll solve your problem.

As above but could also be a faulty speed sensor on the side of the gearbox.

Definately not the PS solenoid causing it.

Sounds about right. Do you have a NA or TT ?

Not always.

Does the HICAS light come on on the dash when this happens?

Never heard of a solenoid failing in all the years I've been on here.

The 2 really common causes are a dodgy speedo conversion which it sounds like you haven't got, or the speed sensor on the box so I'd go for that 99%!

Presume you've checked the PS belt isn't just slipping intermitantly

Won't be if turning it off and on fixes it though.

Aftermarket steering wheel not on straight? causing HICAS to come on after a while as it thinks there's something wrong with the huge bend you're driving round LOL

Took my car in to the dealer I bought it from and said the speedo convertor or speed sensor was faulty under warranty making the HICAS light come on.

They "fixed" it by taking the HICAS bulb out!

Took it back next day and went mental and was told the bulb must have fallen out when they were testing it :mac1:

Could also be a faulty speedo clock as this generates the signal for the PAS, ECU, Auto ECU, Cruise control... So even though the speedo is giving a reading, it may not be giving an output for the other control units...

may be il try the speed sender then but i waz told if my speedo waz working then it wouldn be that is this true

OK, that is true if your speedo is reading correctly i.e. not intermittant, etc

Like Andy said, it feed many things so a break in the chain is most likely.
