Ugly Duckling! Before and After Gallery..........

What improvements have you made to your Zed?

Lets see some before and after shots and a few words on why, how, when etc.

Anything, big or small, from new wheels (Bantanbunny), Chrome parts (slick pete) Wheel spacer (Stellaz) to name a few.

In fact anything that you feel has enhanced you car and you would like to share.

Don't worry if it's a repeat either as I'm sure not every mod is exactly the same.

(If anyone doesn't like what someone else has done, then please can that person keep it to themselves, lets not have a slagging match on "what I think you should have done").

sorry to be off topic, Andy, what material are you using ( for your retrimming of the interior panels ) and where did you get it from etc

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

Sorry for the delay.

It's fake / Faux / Suede or Alcantara. You can find loads of it on ebay. Mine was on the car when I got it and then I got the Kat Skins colour matched and fitted them myself.

Split rim alloy wheel re-furb, bought these of Smithy they were badly curbed & full of oxidation, lots of elbow grease , & a little primer 3 coats, paint 2 coats & lacquer 3 coats.

Still not quite finished but you can see the difference, its taken me about 8hours on first wheel, should speed up a bit on others

Hi Martin,

Nice job on the alloys Mate!

I am thinking of getting my rims laquered as they are bare alloy. What laquer can I use? Also, what kind of preparation is involved?

Andy

lacquer doesnt stick to polished bare metal matey, just keep em clean and salt free :)

Yes it dose

...and how many miles have you done in those? ;)

As a rule of thumb, a surface needs to be keyed before applying paint. I'll lay on the metal, but it won't bond with it. You'll find after a year or so, unless the car is dry weather only, water will get between the lacquer and alloy and you'll get worm trails. It'll chip off quite easily too.

If you look after them though, it should last a bit.

Cheers Mate,

I'm getting really fed up with constantly polishing th efooking things.

It seems like they tarnish after a few days and then I'm back to spending time and money just to keep them shiney.

Is there a wax or something I can use after polishing?

The Brilliant stuff is ok for buffing but not for protection.

Help!

Andy

Well, since I can't post the whole thing here because of some limitations as to the number of pictures allowed in a post, please click here to see my Z ownership story.

Enjoy ;)

Before and after eh???

I am in the mid stages of making a lot of changes so it would be nice to see this thread again in about 6 months or so......................

Just the wheels then?
