Ok my copy of Vista arrived today.

Who else has read that when ordering a retail copy includes both 64bit and 32bit??

well that is a lie!!

you get 32bit and ready for this??? you have to buy the 64bit dvd from the vista website costing £6.75 wow! thanks microsoft for falsly advertising your products and for the great customer service everyone loves. No wonder why macs are playing a big part in the home market.

Installed x64 vista ultimate last night, ghosted machine back to xp this morning!

Vista wont see my raid array grr. Raid controller is installed, driver is there, signed by ms, released by nvidia. Still wont bloody see it!

really is it that bad?

I'll just wipe the system, can't be doing with upgrading as you know it will be trouble.

Another thing is, i had to get it approved and signed off and saying i needed a new graphics card to run it wasn't going to happen (6200 64mb) woops. I'll just disable all the graphic intense parts for now.

I just need to get to grips with it before we are forced purchasing it for staff.

Try going on the web and getting the latest drivers, could also be because your using the 64bit version and the driver only supports x86.

There arn't any updated raid controller drivers :(

Hence back to xp

I took an image of the vista install tho so will just ghost it back and install them when nvidia pull thier finger out.

You could see some of the little manufactures not bringing driver support out on launch but Nvidia omg.

that windowsxlive thing is a bit naff tbh, the technology in vista that is behind the windows aero interface (windows presentation foundation/desktop compositor) is far more advanced than anything available in XP, running that stuff in XP will lead to a loss of performance and it wont be as good as aero.

Vista SUCKS

its only uspports 1 GFX card for DX10 and thats the 8800 series

AVOID!!!

that might just be down to the fact that DX10 is brand new technology. Just maybe..

not to mention that XP or any other OS doesn't supprot DX10 AT ALL, being that it is exclusive to Vista.

been using it for a while now, not too bad overall. havent had any trouble with it.

as for thre RAID i have an Adaptec 140SA in my machine and it works fine. you may be able to use the XP driver in vista for it to recgonise it.

All graphics cards are supported in Vista as long as you have drivers. my 6800 Ultra works fine as does the onboard on my test rig. the 8800 is the only card to have DX10 architecture that can take advante of the DX10 environment due to the G80 GPU, but unless your using a DX10 application it makes no difference.

That's a good price, where did you get it from?

was it a retail or oem?

I paid £136 for a retail buisiness upgrade.

oh right it was a oem version.

I heard that Microsoft has enabled the retail versions to be reinstalled multible amount of times but don't think that goes for the oem.

lisencing is just the same as XP, retail can be installed on as many different PC's as yo want but only 1 at a time, OEM is tied to 1 motherboard.
