Im so fu**ing fu**ing fu**ing fu**ing fu**ing fu**ing fu**ing fu**ing fu**ing fu**ing fu**ing pi**ed off its untrue.

Just started to bolt a head back on the block, got to the 8th bolt and the fu**ing block thread stripped. Just put on some £145 head gaskets and now they are fu**ing wasted.

I cant be fu**ing bothered to get it helicoiled or what ever they do to blocks, I cant afford more head gaskets.

I gonna break her now, i've jsut had enough, 2 Z's, both fu**ing crap. This supposide good one is just a pile of w*nk.

Ill get a list of bits up.

Got nice 18" wheels, gearbox, R34 brakes all round. I geuss thats the main bits.

Might be uprated injectors, will have to check. Turbos are reconditioned with 360degree bearings, not done many miles.

Dump valves HKS I think. have to check.

Spose someone could buy the engine as it is if they want? bored out with JE pistons. I just painted all the rocker covers and cam covers ffs.

How the hell o you get out a greedy e01 boost controller and safc fuel thingy??? Its all hard wired in????

FFS, I just spent £500 on a tracker and alarm!!!!!!!!

Im sooooooooooooooooo pi**ed off its untrue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But they crush to seal, how can you reuse them?? and the bolts can reuse too?

As for stripping, I just did it how the book said. 30-40 all round. then 123. and it went.

Just done the other side and one of those is fooked too. So Both sides are w*ank now!!!!!!!

So I guess you cant helicoil it in your own garage? will a machine shop have to do it?

I have a spare bare block if you need it!!only suffered slight damage from colapsed bottom end but its is still reusable! may just need a cleanup and re honning. ;)

I was going to get my spare old block rebored too but its money as usual at the moment!! That time of year again :)

Oooh Shit.

ThoughtI was having a bad day.

Maybe not.

£10 if it helps.

Andy

P.S. If you give up you loose. So don't ;)

So I guess you cant helicoil it in your own garage?

Its a DIY job rodders, it only a case of drilling out the old thread and tapping a new one to set the helicoil in. thread locking and setting the helicoil in.

If your worried about doing it I'm sure for the price of a beer Gaz could do it for you, If he can, I will.

A full helicoil kit would enable you to do all of them.

£20 to save this car and help another member who has had it tough is well worth it

Just neet to confirm that the gaskets and head bolts are ok.

Ill see if we have any helicoils at wotk, but I dont think we go that big.

Ill have to buy some, any idea where I can get some that long?

Just read this thread bought my zed in december must have been blind when i bought it , never been out from under the bonnet, but by god the smile i have when its working is unbelieveable. you'll get £20 from me, just give me details of where to send it

Stu

same thing happened to me. stupid f*****g design bolt doesnt reach very far into block as it tightens up so theres alot of leverage on a small amount of thread. it was a pain but easy to fix. i think the helicoil was a WURTH one. and i used the same gaskets and there was no probs. good luck

Just cause im a lazy biatch, whats the thread size and pitch? saves me working it out tomorrow at work.

You can re-use both the bolts and the gaskets no worries - the crush doesn't actually so much crush the gasket... Why not take everyone up on their offers and use the cash to get a new block bored? ;) I'll have a spare block available shortly if thats any use?

I think I know how this has happened now. 2 of the bolts are shorter than the others and are for the 2 holes marked on the service manual.

This is why head studs are so much better - they utilise the full depth of the thread in the block so are much stronger...

Yes, re-use the gaskets, they will be fine, and if your worried about doing the helicoil yourself then it should cost about £60 to get engineering company to come out and do it.

speak to jimmer on here, hes well clued up to helicoiling and re-threading, there is also a better tool to use than ahelicoil type

you sure someone has not fitted the one of the longer headbolts into the the smaller hole?

and come on if a turbo failed id understand but friggin ell chin up bud:p

thats what i thought but i double checked when i did mine and its just a bit of crap design. the shorter ones barely reach into the thread when they tighten up.

20.00 to add to your funds fella just tell me how!

We must try and preserve our cars and breaking them might slowly push up prices but i think i am not alone in saying we would rather save good zeds ;)

all the best Rodders you will get there

Dave

As usual I'm not even sure I should show my face on one of your threads Mark?! Please don't break it. It really is a lovely car when its working! Its had so much put into it over the years. I'm not sure how best to think of it but for what its worth Tony spent thousands on building it, I spent thousands on it upgrading it more, you've spent a couple of thousand or whatever and eventually you'll have a great car. I know you bought it with the same mind set that I bought it with; buy a good one so you don't have to plough more money into it, and I honestly sold it to you thinking it would be like that. Comparable cars such as Supras and Skylines of similar power, upgrades and age are still more expensive so its not so much of a nightmare. At least its only small frustrating things that have gone and you've still got the makings of one of the best zeds around.

It was only all done 15k miles ago. I was just checking as they said it was a 3.1ltr engine but it isnt, just the JE pistons. (87.5)

Anyway, fook it, thats what it was, long bolts in short holes. I had 16 the same length, it must have bottomed out and just destroyed the thread.
