OK..what's REALLY FASTER...Auto or Manual TT

Ok Guys ( and girls hasten to add)..the BIG DEBATE: What's actually FASTER in the 0-60 and 0-100 times. Both stock cars...the Auto TT or the Manual TT. On Twinturbo net most say the auto 0-100...even from the lights. And this is both UK Spec and Jap spec ( Japs supposedly have 20hp more right?). And has anyone ever raced eachother on here to settle this...just curious.

I suggest no-one even bothers to reply to this. Its getting tiresome now. Who cares anyway!

Stuart,

this has come up so many times, but the most recent thread was perhaps the most truthful and enlightening of all. see here.... http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/ubbforum/Forum1/HTML/007056.html

when you think about the details, it makes good sense.

0-60, which is 2 gearchanges for both cars i think, then they are fairly similar. the auto would be a little faster on average, as the driver error element is removed (so you dont get missed changes, changes at wrong time, or loss of boost)

after that, once you get into 3rd gear, then the manual should pull away, as the ratio is a lot shorter. the auto would be coming to the end of its 2nd gear now, and the auto 3rd is almost like putting a manual into 4th...

so up until about 60 or 70, i would expect fairly even, or auto just ahead, after that, the manual should pull away, until about 120/130 when i think the auto would pull back

and then, once they both get to 186mph, the auto will pull away as the manual has no gear ratio left biggrin.gif and the auto is geared for about 200 or so ?

if any autos in my area want to test this theory then let me know wink.gif

I have a '91 jap TT auto. I posted a thread about a week back or so about AP-22 data. Once I get the chance I'll do some 0-60 and 0-100 tests. The box can also log 1/4 mile times with 99% accuracy.

Trouble is most roads are congested with BMW 318's around here so finding a long straight to do a test is quite difficult.

I will post a thread when I have done the testing showing all times, g-forces etc. Be interesting to compare it with other zeds.

I managed to pull 0.98g sideways force on a roundabout just recently though whilst testing out the box, I thought that was quite impressive. The car was almost on the edge of breaking away so probably could of gained just over 1g before the back end started fishtaling.

Hi Craig.

If anyone manages to get a manual to rev to 8000rpm, then that will crack the double ton. Approx 26mph/1000rpm x 8 = 200mph. Easy! Just remove rev limiter and modify engine to get about 700HP. Saturday morning job! NOT! wink.gif

Here's hoping someone actually builds an 8000rpm 700+HP Z engine, and sticks it in a road car!!

Robert.

as for japs having an extra 20 bhp, that only applies to newer jap cars as our cars have to adhere to euro4 emission regs now.

I feel the need, the need for speed!
