It's heavy feet that use more petrol, not chips ! Just do it !

People worry about engine life and fuel consumption but remember your car only goes as fast as you drive it. If you thrash a car constantly it will wear out quicker and use more fuel whether it is chipped or not.

Go for it...you know you wanna!

i dont no if i should thankyou or not for that! m8..... battle cries in the chip shop... fuck me!!!

Chip it, stop messin'

In theory a chip should actually protect the engine if you tend to floor it everywhere as it deal with the top end fueling better, keeping cylinder temps down etc.

If you start upping the boost then a chip is going to be far more important.

So that'll be a chip and a boost controller then, also get the new turbots ordered while you are there, and maybe pencil in an IC or two. smile.gif

Not sure I'd necessarily agree that it keeps cylinder temps down since the power from chipping tends to come from reduced fuelling - this means less liquid entering the chambers and the fluid is what tends to be quite good at accepting heat convection.

However, my experience supports the general view that a good chip won't increase fuel consumption. When I had my chip done I found that consumption stayed the same despite the fact that I'm sure I booted it around more than before because it was more fun wink.gif

boost controller?i guess this does what its called ,what sort of job is involved instaling this, how much does it cost and where do i get 1,and is it a worthwhile piece of kit ?

jaylox

Jaylox get a boost controller from Johnny wink.gif.

I didn't really notice much difference in fuel consumption, unless you're flooring it everywhere of course! The big difference with my first JWT chip (and only air filter, not exhaust etc) was also how smooth my engine ran. Nice.

Yep, some chips overfuel to keep the cylinder temp down (like JWT).

That's what they are supposed to do, infact the opposite to lean the engine, the chip isn't suppose to produce power, it's supposed to supply the right amount of fuel and set the ignition timing with respect to the loading of the engine, revs and mass of air. It's there to protect the engine from nutters that whach twice the amount of boost through, smile.gif smile.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif something the std chip map never envisaged happening.

Serious overfueling/bad timing can be very bad too though.

you shouldn't notice much extra fuel usage with the chip alone, it's the high boost heavy right foot that does that smile.gif chip just makes sure there is enough fuel there to cope when you do plant your foot.

If you drove off boost all the time, it shouldn't make any difference really, but who does that?

what turbos did you upgrade to?
