No locks.... Zero.... Unlockable...

As above.

Is there anyone pretty close to me (dont mind travelling too far mind) who can fix my central locking?

It doesnt work with the key on the drivers side. When you put the key in it turns 180degrees to the left and hardly at all to the right.

Decent beer tokens as i have a car on my drive that i cant lock so need to fix it asap.

Ps: Dont bother asking for my address to come hear and fix it tonight

Does the drivers door actually unlock/lock the door or does the key just rotate all the way round? if it does that, the little yellow plastic thingy bit could be broke!

Lock the door and use the passenger door to unlock drivers door!

  • Author

Didnt work mate.

The passenger side locks with the key albeit a bit stiff but the drivers side isnt having it at all.

When you put the key in it goes from the 12oclock poition all the way round to 7ish to the left and 5ish to the right... Much further then it should and there is no catching or connecting at all.

The yellow thing was replaced before so i dont think its that. I dont actually know what this yellow thing is but have been told the above :)

The yellow bit might have been replaced, but did they connect it up, lol.

What happens if you push the lock from inside the drivers door, does the pass door lock too? atleast then you know if that bits working (electrically)

Then I'd look at the lock again.

I dont even know where this yellow thing is TBH?

If you get into the car then the passenger side locks using the bit by the handle but the drivers side is rock solid and wont budge. Locking the passenger side doesnt lock the drivers side unfortunatley :(

i take it that you've checked that the doors don't lock from the inside, mine did something similar, found that when you operate the lock on the drivers dor interior handle it operated the central locking, do this, then when shutting the drivers door hold the exterior handle up, voila the car is locked (before you do this check you can unlock the car from the passenger side) you'll then have to lean over to open the drivers door from the inside. Not used a key since i had an alarm that operated the central locking fitted.

hope i made sense and didn't try to teach you to suck eggs.

You posted that at the same time as me mate

No joy trying that way.

Im going to be getting an alarm fitted as soon as safe and sound can make it but untill then its sitting pretty open.

is it really cold down your way, has it thawed a bit then froze again, i know it sounds daft but could one of the linkages be frozen?

It sopunds to me like a mechanical problem as you can't move the lock on the inside either.

I am no expert but I think that possibly the linkage on the inside has come adrift and perhaps got wedged. This will mean that you can't really use the lock until that is sorted.

I may however be totally wrong.

Wheres the duffman when you need him?

Good luck with it.

I bought it today and its had this problem for quite while but has been kept in a secure place so it wasnt a major problem for the previous owner but i have an open drive.

I think its been like this for a case of months not weeks so dont think it would be the cold mate.

Now if i knew what the hell i was looking for then i could have a look but I would just end up staring wonderingly at the door insides for about 10mins then walking away even more confused :)

What you said rings true so i think its only right that you come and fix it as you are obviously a great lock magician :D

Sorry but i seem to be having trouble with my worms at the moment.

I cant find it mate so if you could email it to me please wodonovan@aol.com

If there is still anyone that could look at for me then illl still prefer that TBH as ill only need to be shown it once rather then trying it myself and breaking something :)

Just fixed my lock. There's a clip on the lock barrel that breaks off. If you want to temporarily lock your car manually, just get in, lock the driver's side from the inside then pax side from the outside.

It's a reasonabily easy thing to replace.

Door card off, two bolts holding the handle in place, pull handle towards you and flip round at and angle and disconnect the two rods, remove. Look on the back and see the little mechanism that's circliped to the back of it. Just a simple job of replacing that.

Early ones came made of a crappy cigarette stain coloured plastic surround, whereas newer ones were made of metal. Yours has just cracked and broken off.

He cant, hes tried that and that bits jammed solid (previous post)

Does sound like a linkage has jammed somwhere. Could be if the yellow clip was replaced and not fitted properly, it could have fallen off and jammed the other linkages. They are all connected to one place, so if one jams you are fooked.

Do you have any pictures of this yellow clip please as im going to have to tackle it myself. As in if its fallen off... where do i put it and to what?

(early shout for a complete new door after i break this one please)

You gotta take all the door card off, then you'll see everything.

you should be able to see whats going on in there!!!

The yellow bit goes on the back of the door key barrel, if its not there its dropped down cause the clip has come off or its snapped.

If anything, you should be able to sort out so you can lock it manually from inside the car.

Right door card off finally  That was fun when i forgot to put the window down and do the outside screw.

With the door opened up and you sitting looking into the insides of the drivers side door, You can see the lock barrel where the key goes in in the top right hand corner. When you look directly beneath it in the bottom riight hand corner there is a small yellow clip with nothing in it.

I put the keys into the lock and turned it and the barrel is spinning but theres no rod from that the to yellow clip, Looks sheared off.

What do i actually need, is it a new barrel as there nothing left on there to connect a new rod to.

Not a new barrel, the rod goes into the yellow clip, then that fixes to the barrel. you will, by the sounds of it, need a new yellow (apparantley metal now) clip and clip to hold that onto the barrel. I wouldnt have thought that part has sheared off the barrel as thats metal and the clip is plastic.

Try and find the rod, I guess its jammed which is why they door lock inside wont budge.

It's because he's put the linkage in the wrong way round. If you look at the link rod, there are two or 3 ways in which it can sit when reconnecting. IE, the bit that's actually attached to the actuator not the door handle. If you don't fit this the right way round, the rod will sit prude and when refitting the door handle will all jam up. It's a bit difficult to explain really. Shame he lives 150 miles away as I'd be straight round there to give him a helping hand.

Which is what I said earlier. ;)

On the barrel you can just make out where the metal rod came out which im guessing came out then angled straight down into that yellow clip which isnt broken, theres just nothing there to attach it to.

The rod is no longer in the door as the yellow clip was changed before trying to fix it and im guessing it fell out then.

Ill try and get a picture....

That's because it's broken off from the back of the barrel and is hanging down inside the door!!!! Like I've been saying!! ;)
