I took the zed out for a drive today.

After about 10 miles I get a few lights flash up on the dash (lights, ABS, HICAS, battery) then I notice the temp going up very quickly!

I pull over ASAP and pop the bonnet. the fan belt has shredded!

So I call RAC and they come out pretty quick.

My normal garage tells me that they are closing down and cannot take the Zed! the only other place I can get it to is a Nissan dealership

I have now left it there with them and they will start work on it on Monday.

I am already shitting myself about this because they don't know what they are doing. I have proof they don't know anything because of what they said on the phone. :nono:

This weekend if you have a spare moment, please pray for my Zed. I don't think it will live for much more than a week after they have fooked about with it!

Probably just needs new belts by the sound of it.

Surely not even Nissan can get that wrong

My girlfriend works for a Nissan garage and they dont even service the cars they just tell you they have then ask you for the $$ so good luck dude

although I appreciate theyd have to replace a belt it would be a bit obvious

cant you do it yourself?

You should have had it towed home and did the job yourself, its only a belt, and for something as simple as this, you'll pay over the odds for the belt and labour charge on top.

I'd be there early monday morning and tow it back to do the job yourself before they start, you could order a drivebelt from any motorpart shop for under £20 I'll bet.

Yep belt fitted yourself for £20 or...

Nissan telling you it needs all 3 belts and a coolant change.

£100 for bits and 2 hours fitting @ £50ph I bet LOL

Not much change from £200 I reckon!

''Please Lord, let this 300zx live again after the work experiance lads have worked on it, Amen''

How's that? :D

Lol, I'd be here at the crack of dawn monday morning, in fact I'd be camping on the doorstep at the thought of the work experience lads having a crack at it!!

Bloody hell, it dont bear thinking about!

Not having a lot of luck lately with the Z Mike.

Will be praying for you and the Z.

At least you didn't stack it and hopefully stopped before any damage was done.

Darrell

It'll be fine I'm sure even my mum could fit a fan belt :D

Just read that thread - what actually happened in the end bud?

Steve :)

Well in the end the guy took the Zed how it was with the leak but I took some money off the price of the car-he had a mate who could do the work and was prepared to take it 'as is' and I couldnt afford to get the work done myself and find a new owner.

Nissan got away with what they had done,i wasnt going to get anywhere without legal action that i couldnt afford and i had the option of the Zed going as it was- I vowed never to use them again (Id used Mazda in the past that have been great-and Toyota since and they have been even better)

I then found out this had happened to my Zed...

And subsequently this...

By then Id had enough of all things Nissan and was glad to get out!I got the MKIV Supra NA...

That ran that till December which was a lovely car-never cost me any money except rear tyres and a starter motor overhaul kit (which i rebuilt myself) and a Blitz Nur-spec exhaust that i got for the bargain price of £100!I then became bored of NA powerand started looking for another TT-I would have bought vai0's SWB TT Slicktop above when it was up for sale but couldnt afford it at the time so got a MK1 GTO TT-which has been been okay so far (apart from buying some un-nescessary bling!)

I would love another Zed but it would have to be SWB TT this time, thats why I float on here occaisionally to see whats going on/whats up for sale.

Thanks for all the comments guys (and the prayers) LOL.

I have spoken to them a few times today just to make sure they know what sort of car it is!

Anyway, ChrisC was pretty close to spot on. They are going to replace all 3 belts while they are in there. including VAT and labour they are going to charge me £258.50

I did enquire about the full 60k service because I'm not sure whether that has happened yet. I decided that can wait until I get down to Ztech again because the guy wanted to charge me £437 just for one of the cam tensioners!

I am just hoping that I stopped before any part of the engine cooked itself. and I'll have to put the rest down to experience...

They want how much?!?!?!?! Parts come to roughly £45 plus VAT.... About an hours work to do...

I know, I know. I've just given up caring! Plus I wouldn't know how to change the belts myslef.

It needs to be done ASAP as I actually need my car for work this week. and he NISSAN dealership is just down the road from me.

I am really glad that I have never taken my zed to them before. I must have saved thousands over the years!

And only 45 mins if you have a ramp !

Too true - bet all the undertray bolts shear as well - make sure they've put it back on securely

You know Andy if you didn't live so far away then you would get a chance to work on this car again.

I know when T owned it you did a little work on it.

Why don't you move on down south?

You can buy the bearings for the cam belt tensioners for £20 each so you can renew all three for £60

Its worth Asking Nissan to Justify the cost and quote you the labour times out of their manual. Most Dealerships have costings for specific simple jobs on each model. Not just Nissan, but all dealerships, e.g Change/Swap out Battery. Change Oil. Change Alternator, Change Alternator belt etc etc.

Worth asking Management as they might knock some money off!

Yeah I know, it's ridiculous.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try speaking to the management and find out why it is so expensive...
