Some of the high horsepower cars run without filters because they are constantly being pulled apart and parts replaced. Like serious drag motors, they only do 1 or 2 runs then stripped.

just a quick one guys, can we run our AFM's without airfilters on.????

and what are the pro's and con's.

i seen a high powered american zed running without air filters

I've run mine without filters when they got soaked but it runs like s**t.

It might be OK if it's been mapped like that but I think the airflow is different.

Also you risk getting dirt and water on the delicate element in the AFM and damaging it :(

so that will be a NO then chris lol.

How did my post move up before the question ????

cos the clock's been fixed (was an hour ahead!) :hyper:

but BTTT, id never even dream of running an engine with the filter off - its there for a reason!

no car should be run without filters on! its there to protect the engine, all that crap that is built up on your filters will be going straight through your engine causing wear!

dont do it!!

LOL just reminded me of this story:

I had just gotten my 2007 STI limited.. It had about 900 miles on it. I got a bigger turbo, gt35r i think from ebay and chip (accessport) since i got the car.. I wanted to get more performance. I was recommended to port and polish the intake and exhaust. We found out they used abrasive material to do it like gritty sand. So I got with my friend that tunes Hondas and we decided to try it ourselves. We got a bag of sandblasting sand and hooked up into the intake and started the car. We had to hold the gas so it would run. He wanted to let the engine suck in the sand through the intake so it would port it out and then push it out the ehxaust so it would port the exhaust manifold.

I was worried that it might cause problems but he figured it'd be OK as long as we didn't make boost and it get sucked in the turbo. After running the car and letting it suck in sand we got about half way through a 25 lb bag. The check engine light was on and the engine was bucking and kicking and sounding really weird. We stopped and hooked the car back up normal and took off the sand supply. We tried to start it again and it was really hard. Once started it couldn't idle and kept making weird noises. We took it out and drove it and it started to make scraping and knocking noises.

Didn't know what to do since my buddy only knows Hondas and didn't know Subbies so I sold it and got a Miata

i havent ran it without filters dont worry guys lol i was just woundering thats all, coz i seen a zed in the states without it. i just wanted to know why

Karl I'd happily read your posts if I didn't have to scroll across to the next county to read every single line :D

Was just about to post that myself, seriously man 1024x768 is way too big. We need a limit on here of 800x300 or something.
