Loosing brake fluid

Now that sounds bad doesn't it

But don't worry too much it takes a couple of months to get to the minimum mark.

I was wondering if these cars a prone to any particular area they leak from.

Caliper seals and master cylinder, or even corroded brake pipes (especially UK`s)

I would have looked at the calliper seals first but when I fitted the front pads they were dry and the brake tester this morning showed a very evan braking, and I mean I have never seen reading as evan before.

So i thought that maybe a good bleed might go down well and a change of fluid.

What are they like to bleed.

Master cylinder is a usual culprit and it can be difficult to see - look behind it and down below the brake servo it attaches to - is it wet or has the paint peeled or bubbled? Feel around the joint where the cylinder connects to the servo - it might be wet or oily. If its then thats your problem - not a hard job to do yourself - I did mine in a couple of hours .

Can you get repair kits for them

Yep give MJP a call :)

I've just changed my master cylinder a couple of months ago, if it is your master cylinder you should see the lost fluid is leaking below it or where its been leaking down the servo, seals wear inside, you can get a replacement seal kit, or get a new master cylinder, now I was going to replace the seals but was told that once they've gone the first time the piston could be scored ie permanantly damaged, so new seals would still leak, and that it's best to just get a new ms.

I got one from a low mileage breaker for £125, fitted it and end of problems, if you do get a used one, be sure it's from a low mileage car or you'll probs get a worn one, or get a brand new one, but pricey.

Are you actually loosing fluid or is it just the effect of the brake pads wearing ?

Its one of those, not sure either way so I am monitering it as I go.

The brakes are good, although I could do with a bit more presure.

Can't be the pistons - if it was, the pedal would go to the floor if you kept pressure on it....

Yeah its strange, the pedal is a little soft but not so you would say "Jees mate ya brake are shite" (In an Aussie accent) and at the mot the balance was the best I have ever seen, I have no puddles but when I had the car off the road the dash pot was almost empty and now its creeping down again, but week by week not day by day.

Thats why I thought I may need a bleed or something, but I plan on putting steal lines on it soon so I will do it all then.

Master cylinder is a usual culprit ...............

Yup, this is a weakspot for earlier (series one) Z32s.

Get one from a later spec model as Nissan sorted the problem by then; see Mike at MJP.

Richard ;)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
