Whats the tyre size for those?

Ive been told there is only a 10mm allowance each way so....

12" = 305mm

That means either 295mm or 315mm doesnt it?

What would going to 335 size on them do?

Featured Replies

A 285 to 295 is about the maximum for a 10" wheel so must be at least a 335 for 12"...

Are you having a wide arch kit fitted to get those wheels on?

I presume you've checked availability and prices of that size tyre?

Not many go above 285's so you'll be very limited.

Wide arch is allready on there.

The tyres on the rear are Pirrelli P-Zero's - 335/30/18 but if they are 12" wide alloys that means they should be anywhere between 295mm and 315mm using the 10mm either way.

They work out at about £330 each :( and quite a few places do them but they arnt a walk in the shop available if you know what i mean so no quick side of the road changes for me

Toyo list precisely one size that'll go up to a 12" rim:

WHEEL SIZE LOAD/ OVERALL OVERALL STATIC REVS PERMITTED
Inflated SPEED DIA WIDTH RADIUS PER RIMS
Dimensions INDEX (mm) (mm) (mm) MILE (inch)

315/25ZR19 98Y RF 640 324 303 824 11.0 - 12.0
295/35ZR18 103Y RF 661 296 308 798 10.0 -11.5

Plus a 295 that might stretch if you're lucky, maybe.. looks like their 315 is quite a 'wide' 315 though (with a static width of 11mm wider than the quoted size), so you might need a 325 in another manufacturers tyre..

Ah, you've got 18's ;)

Going to 335 will give you a more 'baloon-like' sidewall - more sidewall flex under hard cornering, but a more progressive breakaway when you lose traction.

335 shouldn't be dangerously 'too big' either.

Well I've got 295/18's on my 10" wheels and they look just right so I can't imagine stretching them another 2" over a wheel????

They'd look really under-tyred surely?

335 is on there now and it rubs the lining on corners so i was thinking now that ive found out they are 12" wide and not 14" wide that i could drop a size say to either 325 or 315, theres pennies difference between them but i didnt want to put the 335 back on if they are too high.

Otherwise its down the playing with the inside archs and i dont really want to have to go down that route.

This is what im trying to find out if there IS 10mm allowance on the size because as you say it takes 335s and they dont look too big, look just about right bar the rubbing but if they are only at maximim meant to have the 10mm either way then they are 20mm over the limit. If im wrong about the 10mm allowance then it means the 335s can stay.

Stretching tyres esp in the dub scene is the in thing but its not for me and can you imagine taking a corner with them stretched and just peeling off!!

I think how well they'd fit would have almost as much to do with the individual tyre design as the stated width - sidewall construction, tread pattern, aspect ratio..

Still, I agree - I don't think I'd like to try stretching a 295 over a 12" rim, even if Toyo say it'll do 11.5"..

315 ought to be a nice size, though - 325 if they're about.

I feel so... undersized with my poor ickle 205's on the '2  ;)

It's a rule of thumb - no more, IMHO.. It'll vary hugely depending on how much sidewall you have to play with - you could stretch a 185/60 a lot further than a 295/30, for example, as there's simply a lot more rubber there to stretch (if you're into the Euro look, as you say ;))

IMHO you're fine with 335's, it might even 'handle' better (not outright grip, just more communication & progressiveness), though a 315-325 is probably more 'correct' for the 12" rim, going by the tyre manufacturer tables..

So in other words - s'up to you, arch fettling or tyres ;)

Im staring down the barrel of 2 new rears at the best part of £700!!

At least my wallet will be undersized more then your rear tyres

Might just sod them off and go for the MG Metro style. Wrapped for £15!!

Cheers for the help lads :D

 Well if you stuck, what, three metro tyres side by side on each side of the car maybe? ;)

"300ZX, artic lorry edition"

Well this was from yesterday with 295/18 Falkens on.

I've had Bridgestones and Fuldas and they haven't looked much different.

You might be interested to know that my tyres catch the arches over bumps too, and so do most other wide arch cars I know.

Which arches have you got?

Reminds me of when I called in at Quickfit for a quote after buying my wheels and asked how much for a pair of Bridgstones in 285/18 - £900.00

They did offer to match anyone elses price but I said I rather give someone else the business for an honest price! LOL

I got these Falkens as end of range offers for £85 each online

stretches tyres aint gonna peel off, after all its how nearly all competition drift cars run.

I've bought 18"x12" wheels to fill out wide arch kit aswell and i was told the perfect size of tyres would be 315/30.

Best price i have had is £280 per tyre for :

Pirelli P ZERO ROSSO Asimmetrico 315/30 ZR18 98Y N5

Hi ChrisC - what was your favourite tyre in terms of grip.

Agreed totally. Stretched tyres will do the opposite. Due to their nature they'll have far less bodyroll.

Hi ChrisC - what was your favourite tyre in terms of grip.

There all the same to Chris he only goes fast in a staight line anyway and with all the oil mist all over them it don't matter. That wasn't his clutch that was knackered at the Dyno day, but his Traction control working over time.

Hi ChrisC - what was your favourite tyre in terms of grip.

Bridgestones were very good but also very expensive.

Fulda's were OK, cheap and lasted a long time.

Yokohamas very grippy but wore out in no time.

Falkens are still on but wearing well and plenty of grip and the cheapest I've ever had - Will definately have another set.

I'm not sure ultimate grip really matters when you get to these widths, you have to be doing some crazy speeds before you start to lose grip in the dry with any of them! LOL

Yes straight past you in your Volvo!

i'm guessing you got a car sorted now then Wayne?

Yep chris but my Volvo kept going at 140 without breaking down and I past you the most times because you were always on the hard shoulder in a cloud of oil smoke :slap:

It was onlt when that gut brushed past your car that we realised it wasn't soot black

LOL tw@t!

Only problem I had was a shredded fanbelt because the locking adjuster nut was missing and it kept coming loose.

All part of the GPS service...

New PCV's on the way now to stop the smoke, fingers crossed!
