Hi all, zed started to overheat today, I have some kind of leak of some sort.. it dumped quite a lot of water.. any ideas what it may be? I did have a minor leak before could it have turned into a major leak of some sort?.. car was fine over the past few days and at work today.. it was only after i went round to my friends house (who was going to have a look at it) that i noticed quite a big puddle of water on the floor.. we topped it up with water and i drove it home and on the way it started to overheat.. so car is staying parked at my house tomorrow.. i am not going to drive it until i've got it sorted as i dont want to warp the head etc..

any ideas what it could be?

Water seal on water pump - that's my experience of a leak. Used to leak a little then all of a sudden it let-go big time.

Good luck

Well, car has done 65 000 miles and has not had a new water pump as far as I can tell, so I will get this replaced ASAP., Where would the best place to get one be? I need one quite soonish as I need the car to get to and from work!

TBH mate Nissan is probably the best place to get one from. My bro went through 3 water pumps on his S13 in as many months all of different non-gen makes. Try mike at MJP. He's a trader on here and might even have one in stock.

Exactly!

Do not use ANYTHING but a genuine Nissan item. Someone here did a comparison some time back and the impeller on the "pattern" part was a lot smaller than the Nissan one. Since good cooling is vital on a 300zx it's not worth skimping.

Have you had the cambelt changed yet? It's normal to do the lot together as the water pump is only really good for 60k miles.......

And whilst you are "in there" replace the stubby little coolant hoses at the front of the engine. Chances are, you'll have the front off to change the pump and these will start to leak in a month :nono:

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

At £26.39 no ****ing way!!!!

Id agree with richard the stubby coolant hoses can be a sod, last zx we had the wife had the cambelt changed at a Nissan main dealer and the twats didnt change them 1 month later steam while driving and found to be leaking from there, took them off and found them to be crumbly as hell, the moral is if you wanta job done properly do it yourself!!!
