Hi everybody, been driving this car for 2 weeks, i have noticed an occasional steam (sumtimes) coming out from under the bonnet, under the battery.

today it steamed alot. Is this time for a heater matrix job, or a pipe which is broke. i dont have a clue any suggestions would be very helpfull as the heaters blow warm and it never over heats..... But it def smells and looks like coolant, The car is 300zx TT manual swb if that helps at all. done 89000. import, :nana2: :nana2: :nana2: :nana2: :nana2:

The heater matrix hoses are in the centre at the back of the engine so unlikely.

Sounds more like a turbo water feed that's split...

I wouldn't drive it until you find the problem tbh. Does sound like water dripping onto the exhaust manifold on that side as Chris said.

What they said mate ^^! Pretty risky driving it. There's a little tube that feeds coolant to the turbo, they often go. Its a right bugger to get your hands to it as its round the back of the engine. Get your ET arms on. Also its harder to get a replacement on than it is to get the old fduked one off! Good luck

Yep sounds like the hose that runs across the back of the engine. Time to bypass the throttle body coolant lines and renew any other hoses with silicone...

Well when i drove my dad's Citroen Xantia once there was lots of white smoke and the electrics going weird.. then failed. This was down to a faulty alternator.

Is it deffo steam? Does it smell of anything?

funny thing is after the car has cooled down it drives normal. I think this only happens when i abuse it the Z :nono: :nono:

any1 know where to get the complete silicone hose kit for all cooling pipes. ???????

Smithy can supply any silicone hose you will need. Check the traders section, Smithy's place...

These are the new turbo water feeds for a plenum bypass , all come off the water pipes at the rear of the engine that feed the matrix .

These are the feeds that normally go under the plenum through the throttle bodies and snake their way down to the tubs :nono:

The metal pipe on the right side above the turbo is the only original pipe you leave on but this has a small section of rubber tubing connecting it to the turbo , this will need replacing just to be on the safe side .

It all can be done with the engine in place , on the N/S you,ll have to take the battery out and remove the hard pipe coming off the turbo to gain access.

On the O/S just need to remove the hard pipe off the turbo and be prepared to cut your hands :smash:

It,s done with 6mm silicon pipe from Smithy,s HTH

Hey boldy

did you bother removing the metal pipes from the throttle bodies like it says to do on tt.net?

I have rodder's engine and it looks like he has done the same bypass as pictured above but when Pete and me removed the plenium the metal pipework was still attached to the bottom of it?

Well when i drove my dad's Citroen Xantia once there was lots of white smoke and the electrics going weird.. then failed. This was down to a faulty alternator.

Can I ask what thats got to do with a water leak on a zeds turbo coolant pipe?!!!!!!!

bump, has anyone bothered removing the metal water pipes from the throttle bodies by drilling them out as it says on tt.net?

(2000th post yey) ! :D

May be a silly question, but did you have the Air con on for a long period of time and then only saw the steam once you stopped.

Had this with mine, it was condensation dripping onto the red hot turbo's.
