Damn it - so now I have to keep my phone in it's holder in order to send text messages - that's just dangerous ! ;)

you wait untill you get a fine for having it in your pocket or for even owning one dare you switch it on god forbid

You can also be done by using your hands free kit if the police deem you to not be in control of the vehicle :xxx: :headvswal :mac1:

is that why women dont get done? as they are never in control of their cars so they cant tell if they are holding their phone or not

but that's because you're not in control of the vehicle, not because of the phone per se... can't see a problem with that! (I've seen many people who shouldn't be allowed to drive let alone drive & speak at the same time!!)

Will be interesting to see how this all pans out & how long it takes for someone to challenge it in the courts... police acting as judge and jury it seems!

is it ok for your bird to hold your cock tho? as long as your not holding it yourself?

LOL @ Carl. Anything to stop it running around the car clucking....

But where will this end? Soon you wont be able to change the station on the radio, use your satnav, adj the climate control all because your hand isnt on the steering wheel! Who judges whether you are in control of the vehicle? :headvswal

LOL, yeah, what about changing gear

using your indicators (BMW drivers excempt LMAO)

Sory.

All in favor of people useing mobile phones while driving being banned. Cemetaries are filling up with people who where hit by same idiots.

Why risk live over a msg or call that can be done later. If yoou must answer the fooking thing because its important, pull the fook over.

Oh dont worry, I agree 100% with you! I NEVER use my phone while driving. Never have done, even when I lived in SA and it wasnt law. Like the no smoking ban in public (yipee, at last) where is that gonna lead to in the future??

LOL at the BMW drivers!

It's one more distraction, at the end of the day when you spend your whole time driving looking in your mirrors for police cars, speedo - checking you're not 2 miles an hour over the limit and studying the horizon for speed cameras speaking on the phone just adds to your already busy thinking pattern while driving...

...hold on did i mention looking out for cars, pedestrians and traffic lights? Sorry always forget i'm supposed to be watching for them :D

Now that is a distraction! I spend more time looking at my speedo though those 'average areas' than looking at the road. I'd love to know how many tail end shunts there are in those areas compared to areas with the same speed limit and no cameras.

In South Africa the speed cameras are hidden. So I just drove how I wanted and paid the fines when I dropped the hire car off. £55 for 3 fines, so cheap! And no points!

What about Lorry drivers that use CB radios?

or eating yorkie bars

What about Lorry drivers that use CB radios?

And what about Police who talk on their radios while driving? ;) Some of them can't drive for toffee either!!

Totally in favour for this addition to the current law, how much does a simple hands-free kit cost these days? Next to nothing. Even my fully hard-wired Bluetooth kit only cost £69, and that's only £9 more than one fine ;) so more than worth it.

I think they should ban smoking while driving as well........ why?........ Because how many people do you see while lighting up have no concentration on the road whats-so-ever?? If they use the cigar lighter they are bending over, and if they are using a match they have both hands occupied holding the matchbox and match!! Bloody dangerous if you ask me :D

pretty girls in short skirts walking on the pavement are a massive distraction. how many people have hit lamposts for staring. please dont say they will be banned to.

all phones are handsfree, you just jam them between your shoulder and ear, job done...

   Too true

Funny, we were asking that same question earlier today. If you rigged up a CB mic to your mobile, would that make it legal

well said how do the coppers get away with driving and talking to their cb's at the same time? i have seen people get done for eating apples well yes fair play they were not totaly in controll of the vehicle but how can driving with one hand on the wheel & 1 hand on the cops cb be different to driving with one hand on the phone?

i agree both are bad practice but again one rule for us & different for them again :headvswal

LOL this country is mad it allows CB radio but if you are caught with a phone in your hand you get 3 points and a fine

A guy I used to work for was killed while driving home from the pub like that

It was a long straight dark country lane that people used to speed on all the time.

The police found his M3 smashed into a tree after he'd clipped the kerb and spun off.

A fag and lighter were found in his lap and they couldn't find any other reason why he might have gone off on such a straight road.

He was a real nice guy with wife and kids :(

Anyway there's no excuse for not using handsfree kits when they're this cheap

Maybe they should get rid of car stereos as well. I'm forever crashing and killing myself and pedestrians whilst trying to find a good radio station or find the right cd in the disc wallet?

Also they should get rid of all the controls on the dashboard for heating and whatnot. There's way to many buttons to distract me in my Black Mans Willy (BMW), and the ones that are comfortable don't work any way...
