Hey all i have a uk TT manual has done 128 k had it for about 6 months really pleased with it ,been going well but wanted to know how long the turbo s last will they be going about now or with the highish mileage they would of been changed by now , i ask cause i wanna change my exaust soon so don t know weither to play it safe with a cat back or de catt and finish off my possibly diying turbo s .cheers :duffer:

Get a decat exhaust, for best results.

 

The best way to check if your tubbys are away is to check for the tell tale smoke from the exhaust, a worn out turbo = white smoke.

 

You can always replace or recondition the turbos later when they need it.

That all depends on how you look after them, how you drive the car and how often and what grade of oil you use.

yeah no sign of smoke or anything yet part from a little when engines cold but that goes ,the car has been looked after, its completly standard par from gear knob, could orignal turbos last 128 k if looked after. many thanks boy s / girls

If you decat at this sort of mileage you are asking for trouble, i.e. the turbos will normally fail due to the change in back pressure. There is a big cost difference in just changing the exhaust to having to change the turbos (engine out) as well.

yeah that s what i thought id rather wait till i get the engine rebult to touch the tubs if i cat backed it for now that would be fine would t it

Some turbos can last for 150k miles if oil changed and kept at factory boost levels .

im in st george wher about s in brentry, im round there quite a bit, ive seen a road round there somewhere with 2 zeds one yellow one red both jap, manuals

I live 5minutes from there.those two cars belong to friends of mine.my cars a grey jap tt manual.the yellow zed is an impul 932s quite a rare car.

my uk k reg finally siezed one turbo at about 144k. I had it from 110k ish. Got 2 replacements in and still going strong
