If i was to get hold of an engine, Im guessing it doesnt matter roughly what condition it was in.

How much would i be looking at upgrading it and a full rebuild to run 450rwhp?

What bits would i need to buy for this and what would someone charge to do this for me?

So i mean, i supply the engine to someone, they rebuild it with the parts i supplied for the above power and then transplanted it into the car for me.

Im trying to see if it would make sense money wise to do this and just get a mint shell compared to buying one outright.

Thoughts please :D

Spongey, the tricky bit is getting a secondhand engine that is good enough to uprate. There have been guys on here with cars running OK but with perhaps one lowish compression, but still sounding sweet, and when its been stripped its beyond economical repair, i.e. the bore is damaged. Basically, be cautious when buying an engine, take someone who knows what to check and look at.

That wouldn't be an issue, with uprated internals you'd be looking at a rebore and oversize pistons anyway which would remove the damage. The major ones to avoid are damaged bearings as this will render the crank useless....

Is there anyway to check those bearings without taking the engine apart?

If thats a stupid question and i think it might be then reply and insert name calling here >>>>>>>>........

:)

Nah not a daft question. The only way would be to hear the engine running and make sure there's no bottom end knock....

Not strictly true. When Jimmer (my son) stripped Si's engine, although running sound, but with one low compression, when stripped the bore was so badly scored, it would have required a sleeve fitting. Luckily for Si, he had another engine which had a good block.

Well you can go as large as 90mm on overbore so that must have been virtually wedging the piston in the bore

Didn't want a rebore, nor did I want oversized pistons. I had a very good condition low mileage block and crank as replacement.....which inturn was rebuilt. :)

When did I say beggars could be choosers? LOL

We're talking about rebuilding with forged internals so rebore is virtually unavoidable anyway....

No offence intended - if you don't want to rebore then don't buy a low comp block ;)
