Is it wrong of me to be considering a.......

Supra??

I dont want to, I dont really like them as standard but the top secret one floating on ebay looks stunning and with 700bhp more then makes up for its lack of class.

Cant say too much yet as im not sure if it will work out and i dont know if the seller wants the info up here or not yet. Ill let you know asap allthough i can say its NOT those members mentioned, Its a fresh import :hyper:

it's not blue by any chance?

Paul.

Whats yours had done under the bonnet then Si as i know you like standard ;)

At the moment mine's totally stock on a pretty much freshly rebuilt engine. Before, unbeknown to me, the waste gate solenoids were unplugged so was running unlimited boost. I rarely drive it hard, infact can only think of 2 occasions where I've really used the power. But the second time would see the problem come to light. The engine and car were...and still are low mileage and you can tell that buy looking at the car and the fact that there's no wear at all on the seats and pedals. Was a shame the engine went the way it did as it was the smoothes VG I've ever heard, infact the rebuilt one is pretty much the same.

Anyway, due to the unlimited boost issue, on a hard acceleration run it melted 2 pistons. The car carried on running fine after that, just kept blowing the dipstick out. Eventually, due to blow back, one or other of the valves got coked up and I lost all compression in one of the cylinders. I already knew I needed an engine rebuild, so it wasn't a suprise when it started misfiring.

I bought what I though was a good low mileage engine from a forum member who shall remain nameless...lol, it had a HG that had failed and the headbolts weren't even tightened on it, plus loads of other bits and bobs. So I got shafted in that respect as the bastard wouldn't have it back.

Anyway, we stripped this engine down to find a low useage bottom end. IE, a very good, what looked like, low mileage bottom end. When we had a look at the shells, even those looked good, but replaced them anyway. One of the piston crowns had a fault with it, which might have led to the HG failure. Luckily had some spares and a match was found. The crank looked like new, the journals barely had any whitness marks on them, so fitted new shells, new piston rings a light re-hone and fitted 2 rebuilt heads. Junked my old engine as the bores were shot.

Turbos were in very good condition so refitted (intend on fitting some uprated ones eventually), but not interested in a big BHP Z, just want something that looks like new and sounds like new and goes a little bit quicker than original. Car is running very well now. Still a very very quiet and smooth VG. The engine's run in now, so will be going to see John Dixon in the spring. After fitting some new 02 sensors, it's having a new chip and some 1mm boost jets fitted. So should be back up to a nice 350bhp.

Everyone has a go saying all I like is stock. Which is true to a certain extent. but also a bit of a myth as I love big power Zs and modified Z’s (and was looking forward very much to seeing kirbz finish his silver one).

I just hate ungainly ugly bodykits (as there is some absolutely horrendous stuff you can get for the Z32), awful colour schemes and nasty wheels. I bought the Z for the way looked, certainly don’t want to go adding horrible odds and sods to it as it really does not need it.

Just so you know si i wasnt having a pop at you not liking modded Zeds and i understand where your coming from as the cleaner the better from my taste too :)

Making it look like a pumped up saxo does nothing for me, clean paint, clean body lines and a decent engine are more then enough for me.

You have put some sweat into that engine aint ya?!? Must be nice to have it how you want as it stands let alone when J-Dixon gets hold of it. I know that must give the ultimate buzz having it built from your ideas and id love to do that one day but at the moment for the reasons above its not the route i want to take.

Yours is a stunning example of a stock looking zed even though it isnt and ill have to have a look around yours on the lap day if you do make it up :)

Ps: Im not slating big kits or other peoples zeds, just that i like what i like and dont want it to be taken as a dig.

Yeah, although to look at, mine isn't anything that special. I've just tried to do a restoration job, from an already tidy car, I just added a few tweeks on the way. :)

You wouldn't be disappointed with a 450bhp car, it will be VERY quick.

Look around at cars with that kind of power and you're in some very good and expensive company.

As soon as I get the money I'll have mine mapped and get the boost up from 13 to 18-21psi ish and see what it puts out.

I'm getting 400 at the wheels at 1bar but I'm not risking upping the boost until I know it's mapped properly.

Even now there's not many places I can floor the throttle for more than about 3 seconds and by then I'm doing treble figure speeds.

Following a car at 50 ish I can overtake and pull back in front in about 2.5 seconds I reckon.

If you're not used to that kind of power with no traction control it's going to be dangerous learning the hard way.

At least building my car I've upped the power slowly over the years and know it very well.

I would have thought 700bhp would be pretty un-useable on the road but good for dragging/racing I suppose.

Mac told me his is a bit OTT for the road and it's got another 100bhp ish left in it yet, when he gets new fuel pumps.

I'm very tempted to sell mine at the mo as i've got too many debts and it's not even getting used because I can't afford to run it.

I could do another decent Z in future when I'm better off again but it kind of seems stupid when I've replaced every part of the car with new so it's reliable and I've sunk going on £30k into it over 6 years

Sorry Si, but the grammar police are on to you.......

......it's "by"

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I hang my head in shame. Not normally something I get confuddled with. It was midnight.

Supra is a better built car, no question.

I personally found the Supra just as nice a drive as my zed - having said that i also feel that the tein set-uo ruined my last zed!!!!

GT-R has the added bonus of being usefull when it rains, as it does at least 150 days of the year, thanks to very fancy 4WD system.

You really are going to buy one, does that mean the mustang is going??

Dont fancy going for another Zed without the back breakers on?

The 700bhp supra im guessing isnt to nice to run at full power most of the time, unless its motorway use i cant see you putting much more the 400 through the wheels around town. Would still be amazing to have that power there if you want it :)

Ive spoken to you about yours chris and will leave the ball in your court mate as per last PM as i know your still unsure which road you want to go down and i dont want to take a car from someone who still loves it as i can tell you do by our conversations. You know where i am mate if you want to talk.

Still all depends on a ride in the boat if she is still around when the sun comes back ;)

i dont see whats so top secret about the bodykit?? seen that kit on loads of supras i suppose any custom exhaust is TOP SECRET lol but anyway nice fast motor spongey i owned a single turbo supra running 650bhp good fun mate dont hold the road like a zed keep that in mind - a deffo drag racer only but they are nice looking done up which this one is go for it m8 :)

How driveable are 700bhp Supras though? Are they actually going to be enjoyable to drive? Or are they going to kangaroo all over the place because of crazy cams and mad clutch kits? Might be an absolute pig to drive and only be suitable for the race track and/or 1/4 mile.

Thing something like a 400bhp Z will have is should still be nice for every day driving.

After sleeping on it and looking at others today its not a car id go for TBH

I do like the clean lines and the power which would be pure sex to have but as you say i still think that half of that bhp in a zed still makes the zed twice as much of a car. Doesnt have the road presence of a zed and again andys point about seeing 22 at one meet and only 2 zeds and at a guess one of those will have been his  shows how much exclusivity (*sp) these cars have.

It was a nice thought but ive put up my new wanted post which im waiting for the hundreds of offers to come in from that and go for what i really want rather then then supra :)

You should be able to find the ultimate Zed if you have over 10k to throw around Spongey! What other cars have you considered? I completely agree with how you're doing things: go for a car that you can afford to get the best out there, but there are quite a few types of car that you can get a really good one for 10k now.

Are you looking to get a car that will track well? or just a very fast drag type car?

Also lots of people are talking about big power cars being un-usable on the road, but this only means unusable in rush hour traffic or as a daily drive, not nice fast curvy A and B roads :-) . As long as you arn't using it for a daily drive to work or in the rain then it should be ok. Also it all depends how its been built I suppose. Big power generally means vicious clutches that are hard to drive slowly, or semi-slicks to deal with the power (although not sure if you get these big enough for the average zed wheel?).

Hope you find what you are looking for.

Hi mate,

This isnt a daily driver as i use a works van and the missis has her car so this is strictly for fun :) My son gets taken to and from school by her mother so its just for me.

Ive never even been to a track or drag strip let alone use one so this is just for weekends and meets.

As much as id love to throw over 10k at one and can... im hoping to get something for a bit less leaving me some reddies to play around with and pay the extra insurance. Youd be suprised at how many Zeds are out of my price range!!!

Im trying not to consider anything else mate, Fell in love just over 6yrs ago after going in my bosses old automatic and dont want to buy anything else but if i cant get what im after then ill have to consider others.

Spongey, dont take offence to what im going to say mate, non ment. But do you know what you want? Go for what your going to be happy with, even if you have to wait a while. I know you would have a zed over any of the others, but are you going to be happy with a boil in the bag supra, when you said yourself your not too keen on them just because it has 700hp?

I think you have an idea in your head how your ultimate zed is going to look, which is fine and its what everyone has, but i dont think your going to find it that easy it would be like looking for a needle in a hay stack. If you have 10k to spend, why dont you look for one that is at least done engine wise to how you want it or near enough for about 5k ish then spend the rest of the money getting the body how you want it, at least it wont be a total boil in the bag zed and you will have the satisfaction of knowing you have put your mark on the car and it was you who got it looking the way it is, otherwise you could end up throwing money away just to find what your happy with. Anyway bud good luck with what ever you decide, and as said earlier no offence ment :)

How about this then

Nothing to do with me and the advert has been on ebay for a while.

Seems too cheap to me to be real however.

Darrell

the money they want is probaly just the import tax,lol

i cant even see any small print, somebody is going to be in trouble if they buy that.

Paul.
