Snow And Ice To Strike

Winter's first big chill is poised to hit Britain, weather forecasters have warned. Freezing snow and ice is set to sweep down from the north, as temperatures plummet throughout tomorrow. The chilly blast comes as the wind changes direction from the warmer south west to the north, bringing weather in off the icy North Atlantic.

Towns and cities across the UK, already battered in Thursday's storms that brought havoc and left 17 dead, are now braced for the season's first real winter weather.

Windy conditions across many parts of the UK will continue over the weekend, especially in the north, but not as fiercely as earlier in the week.

Scotland is facing just 3C (37F) or 4C (39F) on Sunday with the rest of the UK a chilly 7C (45F) or 8C (46F).

Monday and Tuesday is expected to be even colder, with maximum temperatures reaching only 5C (41F) on Monday and 4C (39F) on Tuesday, with a widespread frost.

The start of next week will also see snow showers down the east coast, stretching from as far north as Aberdeen, all the way to Dover.

Scotland, the Borders, the north east, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, East Anglia and Kent could see snow falls measured in inches.

Some snow might even fall as far inland as London, which may get a light dusting, say weathermen.

North Wales and Cornwall may also be hit.

BE CAREFUL

Mine's still nice and warm under a dust sheet! lol. I'll crash my Astra instead. ;)

Cheers for the heads up hunnie.

As I use my car on a daily basis I was dreading when the snow was coming being my first RWD car.

Still, when it starts I will be straight out in it on some quiet roads/car parks to see how she handles.

:wack: now i wouldnt advise that dansky. ive owned high power rear wheelers for years and they dont mix well with snow, even if ya got a slippy diff. if you value ya wheels and suspension and even ya whole car keep it locked away wen it snows coz they dont handle in the snow :wack:

I bought it as a car to be used, so it shall be in all weathers. Obviously I don't want to drive it in these conditions but if I must then so be it. And as I must then I shall need to get used to it.

Thanks for the warnings guys, taken on board, but can't afford 2 cars so if I couldn't drive it in the snow then I probably would not of got a Zed.

Mines an auto so at least I can drive it with the power off and my work route is all main roads so hopefully be fine.

Dude it's not actually that expensive to run 2 cars. The money you save on fuel you could buy something like a 306 diesel to thrash around in. I use to have a Cavalier as a daily runner. £250 with T&T and a full tank of fuel, was in fantastic condition, burned no fuel and didn't care about whether I trashed it. I didn't, I kept it up together and made £300 on top of what I paid for it when I sold it.

Infact, I bought a really tidy Citroen BX TZD Turbo about 2 years ago for £70 with T&T. I love bargain cars. :)

Sure, buy the car with the premise to be used daily, but Zeds and snow/ice do not mix.

Anyway, I'm not saying don't do it...just saying that having 2 cars isn't as expensive as you might think.

I don't normally have much luck with the cars I own. Had a mondeo (£1500) that went tits up so it got scrapped, got a Rover 75 (£3000) and after a week some serious engine work needed doing (can't remember what for, valves blown or something, 18 hrs labour charges for stripping engine) not to mention the services and parts bought for it in a year (part ex'd it for Zed). Swore I would only by new (other than the Zed) from now on.

Come end of the year I should be buying a new car on finance (looking at new Civic Type R) for my run around but until then I will just make do with the Zed.
