I have a swb tt, and has been set up to run up to 1.5 bar boost, and has undergone an ecu chip, various internal components etc etc.

It's going on the rollers in march and I'd like to have some kind of idea of what sort of power to expect at around 1.3 / 1.5 bar boost, bhp and torque, as people are asking at what I'm expecting and I've no idea to be honest.

I think these are about 280 - 300bhp standard are they?

So any guesses on power running around 1.3 rr 1.5 would be super smashing great :smash:

What turbo's and injectors are you running as theres no way you'll run 1.5bar on standard ones?

I dont know, I have not gone raking around yet, I've had the car for about 10 months, but just never had time to go operating on it, when I find out I'll post back.

So until I go looking I dont know.

Got any rough ideas about bhp and torque?

to be honest you really need to watch running 1.5bar on an unkown setup,

surely when you bought the car there was a rough spec list?

as for bhp estimate you really cant tell without at least an idea of turbo's and injectors,

IF it can run 1.5 bar then i'd expect way more than 300 though, lol

It really doesn't sound like you know much about the car??

If you don't even know how much power this car has as standard then you really are heading for a "super smashing" experience engine wise IMHO.

If you had a setup capable of running 1.3 to 1.5 bar then you really would know about it, not least from a very empty wallet and huge list of parts.

Don't go beyond a bar on stock turbos and less if they've been uprated until you know EXACTLY what you've got or you'll blow the engine in seconds!

A car capable of running 1.5 bar should be putting out 500 to 600bhp I'd have thought?

InsaneZed seems like a good name at this stage

Have you got an electronic boost controller fitted? If you have what is it set at?

The dyno results will tell you what HP your getting

i ran boost jets (0.6mm - im a greedy sod) and got just over 1.3 bar on stock everything apart from full exhaust (straight through, just 2 4'' backboxes) and an HKS intake.

it went like the proverbial and was slipping the rear toyo's in 4th as it came on boost.

brilliant laugh.

engine lasted nearly a week too then it killed 3 pistons (on different sides), 2 headgaskets (due to the oil the pistons let through), both turbo's, etc etc.

now i have fridays old engine and its getting some proper surgery so it can run like that properly.

any ideas what mine would have been making?

i dont like to guess really but it had 265-17 toyo proxes T1's on the back and in a straight line would try to break traction in 4th. :o)

sorry mate - i have to agree with chris - do not run more than 1 bar on stock internals or it really wont last long . tbh on stock turbos there really isnt any point in going any more they generate more heat than anying else :(

regards,

alex

Ok thanks for the comments and opinions, however all I was asking was for a rough estimate on power figures.

Thing is guys, yeah your right, I dont know the zed very well, I've only had it a short time and this is the reason to join a forum such as this, and what better one?

Thing is I brought this car in from japan myself, now it was described as tuned with extensive engine work, so it came with this set up. I've been into Skylines and Supras for years, I can tell you all about them, but I'd always had a thing for the fairlady Z32 and always promised myself one, so when this swb manual tt slicktop cropped up.......

anyways...

If it runs at 1.5 bar boost which it obviously does, then it's been properly set up to do that, otherwise it wouldn't, or it would be dead, end of, or if it all does goes tits up then I get to crack open the engine and see what we have, which will be interesting and probably enlightening, then rebuild.

In the meantime, me's having fun.

You need to let someone have a look at it who knows what there talking about, to check if its running aftermarket turbos/injectors etc etc

Stock turbos max out efficiency at 17psi (if not before). Stock injectors max out at around 15psi (leaving a safety margin). If its running stock injectors and they are being maxxed out then the maximum power you will see at the wheels, no matter what other mods you have, will be ~380bhp.

The real answer to your question is really - How long is a piece of string? ;)

Well that sound a bit more promising than your first post.

Hopefully it's had forged internals then but if it's running 1.5 bar then it must be stupidly fast and you shouldn't be needing to ask how much power?

Might need remapping now it's over here though if it's so highly tuned.

Good luck :)

All taken on board.

I think I'll take time this weekend to have a look at whats what, or whats not lol

Thanks for the advice.

theres things you need to look for, are the intercoolers uprated, are the injectors uprated ie purple etc, boost controller, aftermarket ecu, manifolds, bigger turbos.

If its running 1.5 bar then all of the above should apply so start making a list of what you know is on the car and work from there :)

Thanks Kirbz, fistly I do know it has a blitz SBC, and the ECU has some sort of aftermarket chip on its system board with japanese scribble all over it.

So to check now is the injectors, turbo's and coolers.

I've never went stripping back a VG30 before, is it much of a pain to get a view of the injectors or is this going to be a job?

Also same with the turbo's, is this a plenum off job, or is there an easier way?

ConZult will tell you the injector size from the chip ;)

Turbos, thats a hard one because its difficult to tell visually....

About the turbo's, what is the maximum boost that the stock turbo's are capable of producing?

Stock turbos can run up to about 16 or 17 PSi I think?? But the intercoolers let it down and I don't think the stock injectors can cope with that boost.

But they are at their most efficient at around 14 - 15 PSi on stock ICs and injectors etc.

You can see the colour of the injectors between the plenum :)

Ah right, this sounds easier, what colour are stock injectors?
