Hi all,

Need some advice on cleaning the exhuast tips. The first problem is what can I use to remove all the black soot from the exhaust openings?

The second problem is marks in the actual ends. I've tried wire wool, tried Amsol but just can't seam to touch the marks :( Looks like water marks.

Any advice????

tried a scouring pad but still really black :(

Looks like something's eaten into the metal itself rather than it just being tarnished. Brillo pads and such like will scratch it and induce deep swirls. Personally, wouldn't EVER put that stuff near it.

I'd do a multi-stage repair on that, although not sure it would correct the finish. Firstly, get some Megs 2k and 3k WD. Leave it to soak in some soapy water. First start with the 2k and gently rub the metal to see how the surface comes up. You should be able to feather back the dead finish. Once you've got some dullness back, have a go with the 3k. Dry off and have a go at the fresh metal with some Autosol. It's a fairly mild cut, but you should remove any of the light swirls from the DW,

You might need to work quite hard with the Autosol after WDing. Once you've gotten some shine back, I'd attack it then with 'Brilliant' stainless polish. It's a lighter polish that should take a lot of remaining swirls and give a deeper shine. Should get rid of any dullness.

Can't say for sure if this would work, but IMHO, would be the best route to go.

Cheers for that, deffo give it a try :)

Sounds daft, but a bog brusk soaked in wonder wheels does it.

Then polish them up with a good metal polish.

Cut some cloth in 2" strips and inpregnate it with autosolve or brasso. Then rap it once round exhaust tips and using a seasaw action like you would drying your back with a towel.Polish away untill you happy with the shine.Sorted and jobs a good un

I thought I remembered someone suggesting wonder wheels ;) Cheers :)

Yeah any alloy wheel cleaner. I do remember reading comments about it possibly damaging the finish, but then my exhaust is cheap :D
