Worth keeping my Zed in the garage - it's a tight fit.

I moved house about a month ago.

Today I sorted out the garage so I could keep my 300ZX in there.

It's a really tight fit thought the door - I have to fold the mirrors in to get it in (thank god they're the electric folding ones).

Is it worth the hassle of carefully putting it in and out?

Will living outside cause it any problems? Or is it worth the time (and risk I scratch it) to keep it in the garage?

Mine only just fits in with mirrors out, about 1/2" clearance each side.

Bit of a struggle getting out the car, got to be parked right up against one side.

But its def worth it. Wouldnt want to leave it out in the rain!

Plus it helps insurance so they say...

Mine lives on the driveway and has done for the last 3 years - no problems starting and runs spot on. Just a pain in the ar5e de-frosting it

I keep it well washed and waxed and it looks as good now as when I got it.

Mines on the driveway it would never fit in the garage we have at present. Just keep him nicely waxed and he's doing just fine :) From what I can gather it's never been in a garage.

If you can you should, go down to your local carpet super store andask for some samples, then tack them to the wall, saves your paint work if it's a tight squeeze getting out!

its gotta be better to keep it inside im liking darkside's idea with the carpet

Just make sure it's deep pile, not cheap shit or it'll still scratch the paint.

done away with my integral garage years ago had a job fitting anything in

turned it into a dining room now all my cars reside on the drive never had a problem with them starting or leaking keep it polished and it should be ok :)

Mine is always garaged. Moving to a new place next week and the garage there is tighter, but have loads of carpet which I shall line the wall with.

to much is made of garaging the zx in the rain/winter etc

lets not forget unless you have owned the car since new, it could have been parked anywhere for all you know, the imports do people think japan never has rain? makes me laugh when i hear people say "my car has never seen rain since i owned it" lol how about the 10 years before ?, as most have said as long as you keep it clean and polished and try and clean the salty shit from the roads off it it wont come to any harm

do people worry when the sun is cracking the flags about leaving the car outside, wonder which does more damage the sun frying the paintwork or some rain?

i would be interested in who has the most problems with the zx, those who park a cark a car up for months or one that is driven as they're supposed to be;)

my missus has a 35k cayenne and we certainly dont worry about a bit of rain lol, go figure

Seems to be a case of crashing Zeds and seizing engines due to hydraulic lock at the moment? Mine's a fun/summer car, so why leave it outside for the paint to degrade and parts to corrode? Equally, mine stays in the garage when the weather is nice if it's not being used.

The main reason the Z is off the road during the winter months is due to the pure amount of crud on the roads. Not least because at this time of the year, the roads are spattered with salt/grit. Japan doesn't salt its road, it uses crushed volcanic ash which isn't corrosive like salt is. Take a look underneath any JDM car and it'll look new in comparison to a UKDM car.

Mine's a workhorse and lives on the drive, we haven't got a garage at all and i live on the main road and the car is never clean for more than a couple of days befor eit gets dusty/shat upon by birds.

I was cleaning it every day in the summer pretty much with the wipes to keep it pristine

just get a good cover for the car and it should be fine. or if you gonna leve it for a while look at the carcoon covers. got one they are excelent

I used to cover a motorbike.

It was a pain and if you put it on wet, it kept the car wet.

Plus wind made it rub the paintwork.

Maybe a quality car cover would be better.

I'm thinking I'll keep the Zed in the garage - there must be lots of bits up underneath that will dry out rather than remaining damp if parked outside.

Carpet's a good idea but it's the actual dorways that's narrow - it's metal runners so I'll just have to be careful! The garage itself if quite a decent size (double  )

ahhh i see, an old Trick i learnt in the navy.... if you can get some rubber hose and put it on the runners, make sure it big enought to spin round the runners, thenifyou do catch it then the rubber willturn round te runners with the car rather than scratching the paint work... if you getwhat i mean.
