i'm getting my car resprayed within the next 4 weeks and garage is saying that they cannot take liability for the front windscreen as its a b1tch to take out... does the windscreen need to be taken out for respray and is it really that likely to break? as i've put all the kit on myself the guy at the garage is charging £800 for labour, but that means i still need to remove all the trim etc before it goes in for the respray and pay extra for the paints. all he's doing is removing the rear windscreen, primer (3 coats of acrylic), paint (colour change)and laquer. Is that about the right price? I am confident in his work though as hes got all new stuff and is insurance certified etc...

It's the rear screen that is a problem to do, front he should be able to just remove the trim with no problems at all.

hey vijay, hes saying the trim along the top will be a problem as it goes as it is tucked up underneath the glass and the paint won't give clean finish between the top seal and panel, the sides are fine as they come off.

I can't remember off the top of my head as my car is in the bodyshop too. IIR I'll have a look at it next time I'm up there

Remember that new rear screen trims are over £200.

and I can confirm that removing the rear glass is a real barsteward of a job.

ive done one. Not doing anymore tho....

totally agree with Pete, I would question the fact that your bodyshop is gonna remove it, make sure they will pay for it to be put in correctly afterwards ;)

Apart from the trim issue your back window is much more easy to remove than your front.

Also your front screen is laminated glass which is way more easier to break in removal than the toughened glass of your heated rear window...

You will be able to remove your front screen side trims easily but your top trim is fitted the same time as the screen, so its not just a case of ripping it out and pushing it back in when you have finished.

Worse case scenario if glass breaks, claim on your insurance :)

yep pulled my screens out for a respray front & rear, & yes the rear trim is about £200

i pulled the screens out & was very caerfull not to damage the trims!!

then i got a local windscreen to refit them!!

one important point he pointed out was having the car resprayed to look like new but refitting a screen that had done nearly 80,000 miles it deffinetly shows!!

Just spray both screens and squeegy off, sorted.

Dinna laugh!! Must a sprayed 100 landrovers in RAF cover the windows in grease paint over then wipe off !!!

Do any of you guys know how much is a rear window is?

My car is being worked on at Bodywork Plus, they are going to remove rear window. Thinking of fitting new rear window to do a pukka job.

Is the only place to get the rear window and seal from a Nissan dealer?

Kev

The rear screen trim can be cut away, do not replace with the Nissan one it is way too expensive, most window companies carry universal finish strip which in all cases looks better than the standard one and fits from above, same applies to the top of the front screen also this way neither glass actually need removing, have pictures of the universal trim in place if you want to see what it looks like.

You beat me to it , was just about to say the same .

The trim they use is just on a roll ,only one little niggle is you would have a joint line on the rear window trim but the fronts not a problem

Very VERY interested, my rear screen trim (the sides/lower piece) is broken in places, and i've been working myself up to buying the Nissan one.

Who is a good place to go to if you dont mind me asking? It would be much cheaper to get the 2 right angle corner pieces from Nissan and get a universal strip elsewhere.

Any pics?
